Stealing grass

No, not marijuana, real grass.

Someone in England who wanted to put down a new lawn decided that the easiest and cheapest way to do so was, with a friend, to roll up strips of someone else’s new lawn when the owner was not there and take them away. They were caught on video but police have not been able to identify the pair as yet. What I don’t understand is why the neighbor who observed this and filmed it did not confront the thieves or even yell out from their upstairs window. Maybe they called the police but they did not come in time.

Why didn’t I think of this easy method? Recently I had to repair part of the lawn in the back yard and did it the old fashioned way, putting down peat moss, top soil, and grass seed and watering it every day for a month or so until the grass grew.

Next time I’ll know how to save myself a lot of work.

If I saw someone trying to steal something from the neighbors, I don’t think I would be inclined to confront them or to yell out the window, especially if there was more than one perpetrator; I would make this same recommendation to anyone else. Maybe it’s different in England, but Americans are too prone to violence for me to want to take the risk.

I would certainly call the police. In the small town in which I am currently living, I’m sure they’d arrive pretty quick.

It always amazes me that there are people who don’t understand “scatter seeds, rake them in, wait.”

You forgot “put up a scarecrow”.

If I had my way (and lots of money, which I don’t), I would remove every single blade of grass from my lawn and replace with artificial turf. Such a colossal waste of time and effort to cut something that keeps growing back just so you don’t stick out like a sore thumb in your neighborhood.
