Mark Regev is an Israeli spokesperson whom we saw earlier being grilled by UK Channel 4’s Jon Snow as he trotted out the usual line about all the civilians deaths in Gaza due to the Israeli bombardment somehow being the fault of the victims themselves.
This time he gets skewered by a BBC news anchor. The interview followed the Israeli shelling of the UN school yesterday in which 20 people were killed and about another 100 injured and Alex Nunns has kindly provided subtitles to let us know what his words actually mean as opposed to what he says. As this rate, with mainstream British media subjecting him to sharp questioning, the only news stations left that will let him throw up smokescreens will be US ones..

It’s like a weird echo of someone I used to know, only with a South African accent instead of an Australian one.
Creepy, and the subtitles are hilarious. Grim, but hilarious.
I have a hard time believing they really don’t know how they sound, or know about the horror people are feeling at seeing this horrific slaughter excused by such a hack of a spokesperson. Do they really not hear themselves?
Seriously, say everything he just said with a German accent, change the location to Warsaw, 1944, and “Hamas” to “the Jews”. Would anything he said be out of place in that context? Would anyone find it unbelievable for that time and place, to hear this exact same kind of dehumanizing victim-blaming? The mind boggles at the despicable irony of it.

That was the BBC? Israel’s despicable behavior is even losing them friends at the BBC? Never thought I’d see that. Still they’ll always have that shining city on the hill, that bastion of democracy, that envy of the entire world, the United States on their side -- with its security council veto.
StevoR : Free West Papua, free Tibet, let the Chagossians return! says
@ ^ sailor1031 : Funnily enough I just saw Regev interviewed on Al Jazeera.
Israel’s despicable behaviour? Would be what? Shooting back when shot at?
@ DrVanNostrand :
Y’know you pathetic lying sack of shit, I could call you names without any substance or justification at all too if I wanted too.
It seems your only argument is personal abuse which would be utterly laughable where it not so stupid and slanderously wrong.
Genocide? Dude, you ever read the Hamas charter? You aware of anything in this issue much at all? Ya got the faintest foggiest clue what the Arab side has been trying to do to Israel and the Jewish people since before the worlds one , only and tiny Jewish nation was even founded?
You realise what percentage of one point eight million people a mere thousand, four hundred or so is?
If Israel were trying to committ genocide they sure ain’t doing well so far. Hint : They ain’t. They could do so and if they were as evil as folks here think -- so very wrongly -that they are, then they would have long ago.
Does it occur to you that maybe, just maybe, they might just want to be free from the threat of terrorism and rocket fire aimed at murdering them and their families?
Btw. Dean & others, seen your link on that other thread about the three murdered Israeli teenagers that set off this latest round of conflict. A lone cell merely “affiliated” with Hamas? According to one source? Hmm .. yeah, that’s convincing. Not. In fact it kinda actually agrees with what I’ve said before.
Even if it didn’t, it’s just one part of the problem -- the Hamas tunnels and rockets being fired at israeli civilians indiscriminately and as an actual war crime -- that would be the other, really major cause for the conflict here.
Hamas wants to spare the Gazans further bloodshed.torment and agony they know what they have to do :
STOP FIRING ROCKETS AND BEING TERRORISTS DOUCHEBAGS!!!
StevoR : Free West Papua, free Tibet, let the Chagossians return! says
@ Mano Singham : Have you no shame?
Putting evil and ridiculous words in Jewish mouths that aren’t what they actually ever said or meant.
Yeesh, that’s sure original and not something that hasn’t been done many times before!
That sure addresses Regev’s actual spoken arguments convincingly -- oh wait, it does NOT. Not one tiny bit. Also would you dare do a similar excercise with a Hamas spokesperson and provide a slight hint of balance here? Nah, thought not.

Israel tries not to kill children, Hamas not only encourages them to blow themselves and others up it exploits every last death it causes in this godawful conflict it alone started and wants and has prolonged by its own actions and choices.
To think some “useful” fools are so deluded and messed up they actually fall for it. Sigh.
Marcus Ranum says
Israel tries not to kill children,
Yeah, because area-effect weapons like 155mm artillery, and aerial bombs are so discriminating.
I think what you meant is “Israel wishes it wasn’t killing children, but, well, fuck it.”
You’ve hit bottom and begun to dig.
DrVanNostrand says
Shocking! More cheering for genocide and child murder from Stevo, with an extra helping of victim blaming. You may even be a more vile and disgusting spokesperson than the actual Israeli officials. Your attempt to turn criticism of the fact that Israel is creating piles of dead Palestinian children into anti-Semitism is classic, though.

Actually, I think he went through the bottom quite a whiles ago.
StevoR
If Israel actually tried not to kill children, they would manage to do so. I’m pretty sure an advanced culture such as themselves would be able to figure out a way to not kill children (and other non-combatants, like hospital workers and the like). Considering your high opinion of the country, it seems difficult to believe that such a low-level organization like Hamas can outsmart the mighty Israel in the field of not-killing-children.

In which War Crimes Apologist StevoR refutes himself in his opening sentence.
Speaking of gross ignorance of the middle east, did you know that Israel’s military strategy is quite literally openly based on codified war crime?
Ah, War Crimes Apologetics in action. Yes, the people killed in the lates offensive is small compared to the entire population of the Gaza strip (0.083%), but that ignores some serious and highly relevant information. For one thing, how many Israelis died to Hamas bombardment over 2014? Six. What percentage of Iseal’s population is that? Vastly less, right? (0.000074%) And yet Israel uses that puny number as an excuse to slaughter over a thousand civilians. So, if Israel is justified in retaliating well over one hundredfold for those 6 deaths, then by that same logic, aren’t Palestinians now entitled to kill Israelis in return? Of course, if we multiply by 100 again -- as Israel has done -- we are now in the hundreds of thousands.
Thus the cycle of violence continues, with every atrocity escalating and continually justified by apologists such as yourself. You are engaged in splitting hairs over what percentage of the population need be killed before it can be considered genocide (your presumed goal), with no consideration for the fact that genocide is not even the war crime Israel is most frequently accused of. Here you go.
Does it occur to you that maybe, just maybe, Palestinians might just want to be free from the threat of artillery fire and invasion aimed at murdering them and their families? No, probably not. Your lopsided treatment of this conflict continues.
You must have
missedignored the part where Israeli officials acknowledged that they knew of it.Oh wow, you’ve finally admitted that attacking civilians is a war crime. But of course, no word of criticism against Israel for doing precisely the same thing.
In fact… you continue to excuse Israel’s use of what you have personally acknowledged to be a war crime. So. I guess this is a tacit admission that you are a war crimes apologist.
I especially like the inclusion of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion amongst that silly list. It was only published decades before Israel existed by people completely uninvolved in the current war; such relevance! StevoR sure has a deft hand when it comes to cluelessness.

When did Hamas implement its Human Shields tactics? Because I read the link on the Jenin Massacre (Battle of Jenin?), and it sounds like there was a giant PR storm to up- and downplay the deaths, but the conclusion seems pretty clear:
I guess Hamas just missed a chance to parade some telegenic civilian deaths that time?
