Stephen Colbert does an analysis of the GOP’s new report on why they think they lost the last election and what they plan to do about it. One strategy is to use celebrities to court the youth vote and Colbert and suggests some names of conservative celebrities that will be surefire hits with the young.
I think it is condescending to think that young people are more likely to be swayed by celebrity endorsements than any other age group and this alone shows that the GOP really needs to think through more carefully how to attract new voters.

It would take a Jon Stewart or Colbert level endorsement to make me re-evaluate the republican party.
It also seems that yet again, the republican party is going to appeal to a Thesaurus to make their message better. They don’t seem to understand that putting a lace doily on shit doesn’t change what it really is.

IMO, I think the GOP is having an internal battle between their ideologues and those that are just trying to preserve their wealth (preservationalists). The preservationalists are between a rock and a hard place since they don’t have another party to jump to quite yet (I give the Democrats another 10 to 15 years before the preservationalists fully take them over), and I think even they have given up trying to have rational discussions with the ideologues. I’m guessing that the ideologues are running most of the official GOP show and the preservationalists are looking to survive the next decade or so via dark money.

Apparently, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski is “evolving” on same sex marriage. Of course, she doesn’t owe the tea baggers anything as they primaried her in 2010 and she won as a write in anyway.

It’s an interesting conundrum. When you have a repellent position, your best choice is to lie about it: claim you’re the party of unicorns and butterflies and daisies. Except, your track record of hating your electorate eventually becomes obvious.
The best thing the republican party could do is disband, and all try to join the democrats. They wouldn’t have to change their repugnant views, they could just be the same assholes under a different umbrella, and it would completely discombobulate the system, which would give them an opportunity to reform in the confusion. Besides, it’s not like these guys actually believe in anything; that would become obvious all around. It would be completely destructive and toxic, which seems to be in line with their overall strategy -- except it would work.

This won’t help them. It doesn’t matter what your message is, or who delivers it, as long as your policies suck.
