I have written before about this weird obsession with public grief in which the media and politicians try to suggest that all of us are, or should be, overcome with grief and emotion by simply remembering a past event. This may be true for those who actually lost loved ones but I suspect that for the rest of us it is just another day that would have passed normally if it were not thrust in our faces by a massive media blitz that wallows in cheesy sentiment.
I myself will ignore all coverage of this staged event.
I agree with you. I live in NYC and there really is a sort of fetishization regarding 9/11/01.
I try to counteract it by calling beautiful cloudless days in the high 70’s “September 11th beautiful”. Because it was! It was a gorgeous day that day.
It is really sad when one party has to champion stupidly and ignorance or fear loosing their base. It is as if you appear smart and educated you can’t win a Republican primary. I lot of these candidates aren’t unintelligent people they just know what their base wants to hear and no matter how crazy it is they give it to them.
