To me, the most interesting moment in the interview was Jeremy Paxman’s incredulous reaction to Chomsky’s assertion that Obama was in some respects worse than Bush. The facts are clearly on Chomsky’s side, yet the more liberal elements of the mainstream media remain distressingly bedazzled by the cultivated mythology of Obama.
Paxman has a reputation in Britain for being a hard-hitting, take-no-prisoners journalist. Yet when confronted with the erudite and unflappable Chomsky he comes across as shrill and jejune. How refreshing (and rare) to see an American public figure educate the ever-superior Brit.
