Elon Musk has announced that he has found a replacement CEO for Twitter, currently rumored to be an ad executive name Linda Yaccarino. That could change. Musk is a dorky flibbertigibbet who might change his mind depending on how the rumor is received.
It doesn’t matter, though. Nothing will improve.
- He’s personally selecting a CEO, which means it will be someone who aligns with his views.
- Whoever he hires will be under his control, and he’s a micromanaging tyrant.
- Whoever he hires will be subject dismissal if she crosses him.
- He has driven the company so far into the ground, both in income and reputation, that there’s no hope.
- It’s a Musk decision. Every decision he makes is terrible.
I feel pity for anyone who gets lured into this position, although, given the kind of person who’d willingly associate with Elon Musk, I suspect any sympathy would evaporate after their first day on the job.
Oh, actually, this announcement is a distraction. Quick, focus on the Twitter noise, not the costly recall of Tesla cars in China!
Tesla will recall more than 1.1 million cars in China due to potential safety risks, the country’s top market regulator said on Friday.
Starting May 29, the US company will take back 1,104,622 vehicles that were produced between January 12, 2019, and April 24, 2023, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) said in a statement, citing a plan filed by Tesla (TXLZF) with the regulator.
That’s nearly equivalent to Tesla’s total sales in mainland China during the four-year period. From 2019 to March 2023, Tesla sold about 1.09 million vehicles in the country, according to CNN calculations based on figures from China’s state-backed industry associations.
I think it’s a done deal. NBCUniversal announced her departure this morning. I can’t imagine this will go well for her. And I’m sure you’re right about the significance of this change to Twitter. Fortunately for me, I don’t use Twitter.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.
Twitter was a good idea done well and is one of the few social media sites that I and many other people, notably all news organizations, found useful.
Now that Elon Musk has turned Twitter into a mirror of himself, the best thing for the world would be for it to die. It’s been overrun by Russian and antivaxxer trolls among its other problems.
Hopefully, a new and improved knock off of Twitter will show up to occupy the niche that Twitter used to occupy. It hasn’t happened yet though.
So… is there a betting pool for how long it takes for Muskrat to knock this executive up with another one of his kids, to whom he will be a soi-disant father, if not a completely absentee father?

All you need to know about Yaccarino is that she was a two year appointee in the Trump administration, and has been allied with Trump since Celebrity Apprentice.

He also has not one but two children with his stepdaughter.
It’s all window dressing anyway. Yaccarino is totally aligned with Musk or she’d never have been given the job. Musk himself is staying on as “executive chairman and chief technology officer in charge of products, software, and systems operations”, which means he’ll still be making the decisions about every aspect of what the company actually does. The whole thing is a fig leaf over his abject failure, designed to cover up for the creditors so they won’t call in their loans as the whole thing goes down the tubes.

Oh, the recall in China apparently is due to sudden uncommanded acceleration.
So, Tesla vehicles can now suddenly accelerate without reason, while self-driving quite precisely into emergency vehicles.
Definitely pure genus! Put hardware out to be alpha tested by the public at large, as some software companies currently do.

She’s said to be deeply connected to the ad biz, which #QElon desperately needs. So either she rescues T-itter that way, or she’s the designated scapegoat for all subsequent failures.
Social media is excused as being useful because ‘I can see photos of my grandkids and stay in touch’. But, looking at it carefully, almost all major social media has become a massive cancerous tumor on an already sick society. The Elongated Muskrat and others proved that many times over. To mix metaphors, having a new captain grabbing the wheel of the titanic after hitting the iceberg wouldn’t help.
With apologies to PZ, we are still searching for a quiet, sane place to live where we won’t freeze our assets off.
For what it’s worth, most Tesla “recalls” are just software updates they push over the internet.

While I think my Tesla Model 3 is pretty good car, I do agree that FSD is a scam and Tesla should refund the cost for anyone who bought it. (I never fell for the scam, thankfully)
The article is not very clear in terms of what is wrong with the cars. It indicates that a driver “may press the accelerator for an extended period of time”. Why? Because the fast acceleration is fun? They enjoy driving fast? The pedal is sticky so their shoes won’t separate from the pedal easily? The pedal sticks?
Most of the “recalls” of Tesla’s in the news are simply a software update that is done automatically at home over WIFI. The cars are not taken into a Tesla repair shop. As I said, it isn’t clear if this is a software fix issue or not.

I reply: Peter, your insights are excellent. I’ve always respected the engineers at Tesla. Yes, the car has some flaws, but is generally better than most. Waymo (not using Teslas) proves the point: they recently had another bad ‘self-driving’ accident and an EV fire in their garage. The Elongated Muskrat is like tRUMP, he turns everything he touches into crap!
Someone really needs to write the Three Laws of Social Media.

According to the (auto-translated) government statement, the Chinese recall is indeed a software fix that will be deployed over the air. It’s a bit unclear exactly what it’s about.
Twitter is also becoming a safe place for deranged f***s and sickos to post videos glorifying animal cruelty and death. (Search under the word “cat” on Twitter and you’ll get sickened at the sight of it when you see the results.)
