Reading it knotted up my guts with anxiety

My daughter might appreciate this. She’s writing up papers, getting ready for her Ph.D. thesis defense, and trying to raise a four year old, and all I have to contribute is…it could be worse.

I don’t think she has any mad Australian guardians living next door, unfortunately.

    One time my father chased a burglar down the street, completely naked, wielding a broken squash racquet in one hand. Mind you, it was dark out and we were in PNG, not Australia, at the time.

    That acknowledgement confirms the value of concerned neighbors and indirectly, the phenomenal value of a territorial dog, who would’ve prevented that entire mess from happening in the first place. After all, nobody ever successfully burgled the home of Rin Tin Tin.

    chrislawson, the only question really is, was the burglar running to avoid arrest, or was he running from a naked man? Of equal importance, would he have ran as fast were the squash racquet intact?
    Perhaps we can arrange for a study. Video documentation of the chase having the audio track replaced with Yakety Sax.

    @Skip Rin Tin Tin. Rottweilers all the way. No one ever wants to sell you Jesus or Amway products when the the family pet is a Rottweiler. They’re amazingly good with kids too. Early socialization is key. (For the kids too, actually.)

    We had a Dutch Shepherd years ago. Great with kids, smartest dog I ever met, best nose I ever saw too. Also, quite protective and learned new commands in 5 minutes or less.
    I still joke that he did my taxes for me and was excellent representation at an audit. ;)
    As for Jesus peddlers, they don’t keep coming to my door, the attrition was far too high

    It probably says something about me that my first thought on seeing that image was ‘That looks like the Computer Modern font, that was almost certainly written in LaTeX’. Which, of course, a lot of theses are. Mine certainly was; the department could just give you a LaTeX class that handled all the formatting to their specs.
