I’m curious to know which of the two individuals below you might think would be a more traumatic sight for children visiting a library story hour.

If you need a little more information to come to conclusion, what the fuck is wrong with you? Here’s the context, though.
A group of men displaying Proud Boy colors stormed a Drag Queen Story Hour at the San Lorenzo Library on Saturday afternoon shouting homophobic and transphobic threats after anti-LGBTQ online activist Chaya Raichik – who runs the anti-LGBTQ LibsofTikTok account – posted information about the event online.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said that police responded to a report of a disturbance at the library at around 1:30 p.m. and discovered five men “described as members of the Proud Boys organization,” “extremely aggressive with a threatening violent demeanor causing people to fear for their safety.”
Right. So in order to “protect” the children, they charged into a children’s story hour to disrupt what should have been a quiet, friendly event with threats and abuse.
Libs of TikTok, which encourages this kind of hate, still has a Twitter account…and is also on Facebook, Parler, Truth Social, Rumble, Gab, GETTR, Instagram, and YouTube. All the social media sites participate in encouraging this kind of frenzy of conflict.

Not that I recommend you listen to Alex Jones (I always recommend getting info about him via the Knowledge Fight podcast), but he has made Drag Queen Story Hour his cause célèbre complete with sick accusations for Queens raping children in front of their approving parents and “cutting off little boys’ penises.”
It’s easy to see why the thugs are so upset they raid a library. Score another victory for free speech.

They like to think of themselves as “defenders of freedom,” but their actions totally short-circuit concepts like due process that are integral to any kind of functional democratic society. Self-important, self-appointed fascist bully-boys drunk on their own stupidity, unable to deal with the complete ordinariness of their ridiculous little lives, more comfortable with violence than with sex and looking for any excuse to hurt somebody.
I’ll take the drag queen over the drama queen any day. Yeah, I know it’s a gendered insult, sorry, but I suspect guys like that would be especially insulted by it, since when you take away their toxic ideas of “manhood” they have nothing. No there there.

Chaya Raichik is also posting tweets explicitly threatening Twitter employees, and yet Twitter still won’t do anything to close down her account. Because social media has been taken over by the right-wing. Not just the user base, but those who head up the companies. This kind of stuff is what drives up engagement, which drives up ad revenue, so who cares about the social consequences of enabling targeted harassment. There’s money to be made from making us all suffer.

Depends on where you are in the SF Bay Area. We are not all the same. San Lorenzo is small, reportedly conservative, and almost all white, south-east of Oakland. We are just as easy to con if a lot of money is spent, and lots of lies are told, as anybody else (see recall of DA Chesa Boudin in SF last Tues. Sigh. ) My understanding is that these guys were not even from the Bay Area.

Lots of my more fruity and exciting relatives who are {ahem} “reactionary ideology enthusiasts” are colossally energised about the horrific threat that a drag queen reading a book to group of children. Won’t someone think of the children? Please!?
Anyway, in my eternal love of irony, when one of said relatives fulminated on the subject, I asked if they would like to bring their children to accompany me and my family to Aladdin this Christmas. They agreed instantly.

You are correct, to my permanent shame & regret I was banned from here for that many years ago.
I think I have become a better human being since in large part thanks to this blog and its commenters among other things I certainly try to be. I am so glad to be allowed to comment here again and value that privilege. I’ll admit I can be verbose and probly ramble a bit. I do have a conversational style and aproach here. I suck at typing and often have to clarify what I’ve written because of that and I like to respond to different comments when I think of different points or wish to amplify or deconstruct others comments.I don’t think I’m particularly unusual in that? Albeit my typing is worse than most here and I’ll try to work on that.
OTOH, I don’t drink anywhere near as much as I used to and I don’t post on every single thread -amny threads yes but not all. I do often post quickly when pushed for time and late at night / early morning when I’m really tired which doesn’t help me here.
Are those two guys the only choices? I mean, isn’t there anyone else who can read to the kids?
