Well, he’s had a long an accomplished career and seems entirely scandal-free (knock on wood) and he did not write that 2009 Onion article (which The Onion seems to have taken down?!). This site has a copy of it. I thought it was hilarious. Sad that people can’t recognize satire.

So yes, he can be your hero.

It’d be nice if someone could explain what the video is so folks outside the US can find a non-geoblocked version.

It’s Levar recommending people read Rosa, a story about Rosa Parks, only to find out that it’s been banned because black people are decisive. So he recommends people read And Tango Makes Three, a story about a pair of male penguins who adopt and raise an egg, only to find out that it’s been banned because of gay penguins. So he recommends people read Hop On Pop, only to find that it’s been banned for being disrespectful of parental authority.

So he recommends people read banned books.

That Daily Show is so edgy! Not only preaching to the choir but to the vast majority. Actual preachers should be so lucky!

So. All this “banning” is taking place in the USA.
So why would all the rest of of give a flying?

He turned 65 yesterday, if you didn’t know (Feb 16, 1957). The same birthday as me.

Roberta Williams (game designer of King’s Quest) also has that birthday (1953).

I have no idea where the video linked-to in the OP is geocensored (ironic, if you think about it), but it’s not here in France. And yes, it is good… worth seeking it, or employing technologically trickery to watch.

It was well known among university students in Catholic countries in the 17th-19th Centuries that the Papal “Index Librorum Prohibitorum” was a handy guide to what books you really should be reading.

I love it “Read bannd books”
yes his face does look strange with that voice coming out of it.
I myself was kind of disappointed when I read when I finally found and read Henry Miller it was supposed to be “prurient” or something. not that I was looking for pornography but he was not that at all great fun learning to see through his eyes I guess I could understand what the problem was it wasn’t for me however
    READ BANNED BOOKS

    unclefrogy @24

I tried to read Henry Miller’s “Rosy Crucifixion” — Nexus, Plexus, and Sexus — in my 20s but it was insufferably boring and the dirty words didn’t make it less so.

he is not what i would call exiting and all of the books I have read by him sound like chapters in the same book. I think was interesting way to write and talk about how he saw things and what he experienced all without really trying to convince anyone of much of anything, kind of outside and inside at the same time. i think it was his unconventional life that was offensive and his really vernacular way of talking while all the time thinking out loud not holding very much back that really got to the conservatives so much.
I would have probably never picked any of the books up if they had not been banned like you said they are not very exiting though sometimes funny. in a self deprecating way

Of course, it is just slightly ironic that as a Canadian I am unable to see the video due to some licensing or copyright or other such sillyness. Of course a VPN negates the problem, but what a pain.
