In cartoons like this, the cats-eye glasses and big hair
seem to be a common shorthand, coding for — what?
Real housewives of New Jersey? The hissing of summer lawns?
Something female and suburban middle class and risible,
apparently.
I can’t be the only one mildly annoyed that these creatures have 8 legs but are clearly some sort of bug or weevil, and not arachnids, right?
I mean, if there’s one group we should be counting on to get the science right, it’s gag-a-day cartoonists.

The “spider” seems to have nine “legs” — two she (presumably) is standing on, and seven others holding the sack full of eggs. No problem with being bipedal, apparently binocular, wearing glasses, talking, using a lift (elevator), etc., but nine “legs”? (Perhaps some sort of centipede, after all, it is the Arthropod Trade Centre?)

@blf can’t believe I missed that, feel like my brain just refused to see an odd number of legs on principle.

@blf
centipedes are pretty good parents (for arthropods) so that would make sense

Pls note also the floor listing above the doorway – they take no chances at the Arthropod Trade Center!
