My wife’s butterfly garden is successful — I looked outside and the backyard was filled with Painted Ladies and bumblebees. I’m going to need to get some bigger spiders.
I call them ‘flutterbyes’. Just seems so much more appropriate.

Nice. Got any bears? I’m liking bears these days.

When we moved in, we discussed putting in a whole bunch of flowers to support and attract bees and butterflies. We looked at various plant types, and in the end we wound up planting zinnias and a vegetable garden. Most of the lists we looked at ignored zinnias, but ours have been a big hit.
The bees love our squash and zucchini flowers and are on the zinnias all day long. The butterflies – monarchs, swallowtails, and a lot of little varieties love the zinnias too, as do the unexpected hummingbirds, goldfinches, and various pollinating flies and such.

Oh, I love echinacea. For some reason I can’t seem to grow them, they always die during winter, but I so love them.
