Property values in Alex Jones’ neighborhood must be plummeting

He is a scary, sick man. He fantasizes about chopping up his neighbors and feeding them to his daughters. Where is CPS?

Speaking of values plummeting, Elon Musk murdered the price of his stock with a tweet. One tweet about the price of his stock being too high, and investors promptly wiped out $14 billion of his company’s worth (and $3 billion off his personal worth). That ought to make you wonder: if tweeting 6 words demolishes all that money in a day, doesn’t that tell you that stock prices are mostly a shared fiction? If I had any personal investments in the stock market, I’d want to bail out fast and invest in something real…like, maybe, tulips.

We should also wonder about something else. All these famous “influencers” — Jones, Musk, Jordan Peterson, probably many others — are exposed as flawed, fragile people who seem to have been broken by fortune and fame to the point where any little thing seems able to tip them over into a slide towards self-destruction. It’s a long slide, too, where they continue to be newsworthy even as they expose themselves to be merely human and far too damaged to be authorities or leaders in much of anything.

Someone should explain to Alex what “eating ass” is a euphemism for.

  2. says

While I’m sure he still has his cultists who insist you watch 51 hours of his YouTube videos before you can even hope to discuss him, we hardly here about Peterson anymore. Hopeful he’s enjoying a well-deserved slide back into obscurity.

Well, at least he admits to what I’ve been saying for a long, long time. He’s a butt muncher.
Admitting to it makes recovery all that much easier.

As for Musk, that wasn’t the first time he pulled that shit. The SEC pinned him up by his ears the last time and required him to step down as chairman of Tesla due to his apparent stock manipulation.

If he snagged any stock during the price drop in response to his tweet, he’ll be looking at some very nasty criminal court time and possible time in the house of many doors.

That is very honest indeed. And now any neighbour who sees Jones walking up to the shared fence can shoot first, then point to the video and plead self-defence. “He had a hungry look on his face, your honour.”

I’d place even odds that he’s just having a laugh at everybody’s expense. Presumably he is still excessively rich and can afford 3$bn, which he’ll reaccumlate before long. Also, I don’t share your optimism about consequences for the rich. If anything, his lawyers would be looking at some very lucrative criminal court time and the man himself at (another?) slap on the wrist.

komarvo @4: Yeah, Musk is well beyond the point where his wealth is self-perpetuating.

I do not think any of the 1% including Musk can look for any serious repercussions from any actions they take under the current administration if of course they offer the appropriate amount of praise to the great pumpkin. Musk’s wealth is partly based of hype and the belief in him and “his vision” and not entirely on the fundamentals of the company his ability to manipulate the stock price is a dead giveaway.

@6, Nah, Warner Bros’ Looney Tunes could be funny.
    Jones’ superpower is brightredspittlebellow.

Musk didn’t lose a penny with those words. You could re-value PZ’s house every day based on sales of similar homes and PZ’s wealth would fluctuate similarly. It’s meaningless.

When it matters is only when you trade. That’s the moment of truth.

Of course stock prices are a shared fiction – money is a shared fiction.

  11. drew says

Stock prices and money are both as real as any other promises. We as a society allegedly enforce some promises with that government thing I’ve heard about. Unfortunately, we’ve allowed that government to only enforce promises favoring a certain class of people.

@10 “money is a shared fiction”

Just like inches, feet and miles and “lines” of longitude and latitude. All completely fictional, and damned useful.

By my count, this sentence could have ended 18 words earlier. Or do you seriously think that either of our sainted major political parties would let anybody become president who wouldn’t look the other way for the rich?

  14. says

I wish he’d try that shit in a “stand your ground” state. Out here in Pa most people have a rifle and my other neighbor has a back-hoe. We’d be done having to listen to that jackass.

  15. says

So, how long before someone decides to visit Jones’s backyard with cadaver dogs and ground penetrating radar?

As for Musk he was whining this week about the stay at home orders being fascism. It’s stuff like this that makes him across as a not as smart as he thinks twelve year old boy at times.

There are two details about Alex Jones which makes that tirade even dumber. He has mentioned several times in the past few weeks, that he has a two year supply of those apocalypse-chow food buckets that he’s selling from his website, which apparently he wouldn’t feed his own kids. Also, Jones showed a picture of his daughter and talked about her at length, at the end of the same episode where he talked about cannibalizing his neighbors. His own kid was used as a prop.

  18. Dunc says

@11 & 12: I’m certainly not trying to imply that money is neither useful nor important simply because it’s fictional. Shared fictions are fundamental to human society.

  19. DanDare says

This total looney has no idea that his neighbours will form a militia and gun him down before he can get across the fence. This is in America right?
