Rush Limbaugh has cancer

He does, and it’s an advanced case. React to the information as you will.

I’m saving my response for when he dies.

    @#2, Randall Slonaker

Sort of reminiscent of a character in one of the Tick spinoffs. “Can’t you remove the cancer?” “If I were to remove the cancer, it would mean putting you on the operating table, picking you up, carrying you away, and then putting you down again. That would be removing the cancer, which is, in fact, you.”

  2. says

I pity the doctors who have to disentangle the cancer from the non-cancer bits. It’s probably why it’s at an advanced stage — they couldn’t tell.

  3. nomdeplume says

I think it was Churchill, responding to the news that one of his political opponents had been operated on and had a lump removed that was “not cancerous”, commented that it was astonishing that they had managed to remove the only part of the man that wasn’t cancerous.

  4. whywhywhy says

My first reaction was that maybe cancer is not so bad, then I thought about cancer for a short bit and still only have two words for cancer: FUCK cancer!

Nicest thing I can say is that at least now, Rush can take all the pain meds that he wants and does not have to worry about addiction.

  5. newzea says

If it’s truly advanced, as he claims, he’ll be dead in a month. He says he’ll be back after treatment and has a strong relationship with god. I’m sure if he were to return, even briefly, he’ll claim divine intervention.

  6. lakitha tolbert says

As much as I hate him, I cannot bring myself to wish ill on him, (I never have before, either), so I’ll wish him a merciful death. That’s as positive as I can get.

  7. Fez says

After due consideration, I don’t care. His brand of toxic public participation undoubtedly created more pain and suffering than he’s going to experience in whatever’s left of his life. He doesn’t deserve any more of my notice than that. The infuriating irony is that whatever health care he receives won’t financially affect him or his heirs in any measurable manner, while the policies he agitated for will result in better people not receiving any care for life threatening conditions they would otherwise survive.

  8. Akira MacKenzie says

I’m sorry, but for the last 30 or so years this asshole has been fuel racism, sexism, homophobia, Christian fanaticism, right-wing authoritarianism, and cut-throat capitalism. He, and other conservative squawk radio hucksters, helped build the foundation of lies, disinformation, and slander on which culminated in the current Republican party, Fox News and Breitbart, and of course, Donald Trump’s presidency.

Limbaugh has done horrific, possible irreparable, damage to our culture and our government. I will save my sympathy for those who deserve it. I hope his end is agonizing and I’ll glad when this blowhard, fascist, fucker is finally dead.

  9. Rich Woods says

Just imagine how many of his fans and fellow-travellers will be calling him to offer their personal testimonies of the successes attributed to snake-oils which will undoubtedly and definitely cure his condition! The phone just will not stop ringing. Oh, dear Rush, I wish you the best.

  10. Gaebolga says

My sympathies go out to his family, who, with the exception of his spouses, had no choice about being affiliated with him and who, one would assume, will be hurt by his death.

And that’s pretty much all I’ve got.

  11. hemidactylus says

Well won’t be long until he has “assumed room temperature” then.

    https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/309463/whats-the-origin-behind-the-phrase-assume-room-temperature-which-means-to-di

“The slang euphemism “assume room temperature” for “die” seems to owe whatever popularity it has primarily to Rush Limbaugh, although R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.’s American Spectator vigorously promoted its use as well. Dan Bron’s answer clearly accounts for the sense of the expression.”

Not often you get a change to flip someone’s own toxicity back their way.

  12. says

Most people get lung cancer by breathing in toxic substances over a long period of time. Limbaugh got his by spewing them out.

  13. Artor says

I’m not inclined to be charitable toward someone who has spent his life deliberately poisoning public discourse. I hope Limbaugh dies slowly and miserably, driving away the last few people who give a runny shit for him, until he is alone and terrified.

  14. stroppy says

Oh, you just know that when he goes, there will be a bunch of mealy mouthed obits soft peddling what a nasty, corrosive piece of garbage he was and all the damage he’s perpetrated.

  15. says

This is terrible news. Cancer sucks and we shouldn’t wish it on anybody.

I, for one, suggest that as a show of solidarity, liberals everywhere should pool their resources and send Mr. Limbaugh as many boxes of his favorite high-quality cigars as we can!

  16. mikey says

He’s a bad man who’s done nothing but lie and stoke hatred his entire life, for personal gain at the expense of others. Shame he didn’t die in the cradle.

  17. microraptor says

stroppy @25: And a bunch of foaming-at-the-mouth wingnuts screaming about how he was actually poisoned by liberals and the cancer was a coverup.

  18. lotharloo says

One of the rare times I see the word “cancer” used with a positive connotation! Hopefully it won’t be last, I have a long list candidates.

  19. raven says

I’ll wait until he is dead and then cheer that he is gone.
I had nothing good to say about the hater for money guy while he was alive.
That he is finally dead isn’t going to change that.

  20. says

I won’t offer any “thoughts and prayers”, but that should be the doctors’ course of treatment. No chemo, just prayer, since those like him claimit works.

  21. says

I know someone who has lived 13 yr with a stage IV (metastatic) lung cancer. They are down a lung and a lobe and periodically do chemo or gamma. Limbaugh may live a while; bastards like him are tough and he has money.

  22. asteraceae says

He’s been so influential for so long. I just try to imagine the effect he’s had on American political discourse and electoral outcomes. How many insane, radical policies became credible by him pushing the Overton window. The number of deaths attributable to him alone must be in the thousands. The hundreds of thousands.

I’ll stop short of cheering his death, and only say that he deserves no better than any of history’s worst war criminals.

  23. says

    asteraceae (#45) –

    If that’s all he is.

He still never explained why he possessed viagra when he returned from the Dominican Republic, Central America’s capital of child sex tourism.

  24. benedic says

    7 Nom de Plume
It was not Churchill but Evelyn Waugh referring to Randolph Churchill-Winston’s son.

  25. mamba says

Clearly this is God’s will for rush to die painfully, and his followers must recognize that HE works in mysterious ways.

Oh sure one could PRAY for his recovery, but to do that would deny God’s will that Rush has to die. Cleatly He has spoken.

Don’t defy God…let him die screaming. With lots of video footage for the rest of us so we can share in God’s glorious ways.

  26. KG says

    benedic@47,

Indeed. And Waugh actually said something like: “How typical of the medical profession to remove the only part of Randolph that was not malignant.”

  27. says

My first thought was that Rush’s ideology has spread to his lungs.

Gaebolga @16 If you’re hoping his family is better than him, I have bad news for you regarding his brother, David Limbaugh…

  28. a_ray_in_dilbert_space says

I want to realize the capitalist dream by buying up the land around his gravesite and charging people a dollar to piss on his grave–but I’ll make Tuesday afternoons 2-for-1.

  29. bionichips says

I’m a bad person – I wish him a painful death consistent with the damage and pain he has caused.

There some is justice in this world.

  30. tbp1 says

As late as 2015, maybe even after, Rush was still denying the links between smoking and heart disease and cancer, and proclaiming that tobacco wasn’t addictive. This was long after even the most dedicated of corporate-apologist whores had given up the ghost about tobacco and health and admitted the obvious.

I watched my dad die of lung cancer, and it was pretty horrible. I don’t really wish it on anyone, even someone as vile as Limbaugh, but I’m not able to drum up a lot of sympathy, either, given his tobacco-pimping and the horrendous impact he had on public discourse in general.

I do regret that neither Christopher Hitchens or Gore Vidal is around to write his obit.

  31. Ragutis says

I find no joy in other peoples suffering. That said, I’m not exactly broken up about this.

As with anyone else dealing with cancer or other illness, I hope he recovers or at least doesn’t meet his end in pain. Feel free to hop off the wagon and start wolfing down those Oxys again.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery you bilious inhuman piece of fascist shit.

  32. captainjack says

    @54
Particularly Gore Vidal. His contumely of W.F. Buckley was epic.
Limbaugh getting a smoking related cancer is a “great paybacks are a bitch” moment. Better would be rectal cancer for such an asshole.

  33. Roi Du Voyageur says

Akira @13, I echo everything you said, except your first two words.
I wish upon Limbaugh a degree of pain and suffering similar to that which he has caused countless others. May his death spiral be a profoundly horrible one. He, and those like him, are vile scum.

  34. shelldigger says

@ Akira Mackenzie: I literally LMAO, thank you :)

As for Limbaugh, I cannot dredge up any sympathy for that hateful, shit spewing, wingnutter. We are a better society without the likes of him. May Fox News go where he goes…

  35. rrutis1 says

My father died of metastasized lung cancer 12 years ago. About a week before he died he said, with tears in his eyes, that he was afraid because he did not know what came next. I hope that Rush Limbaugh knows that fear…

  36. Saganite, a haunter of demons says

I didn’t celebrate when Osama bin Laden was killed, I won’t celebrate when Limbaugh dies. It’s just not something I find a tasteful thing to do.
And while I do think the world will be better off without him, I fully expect him to be lionized beyond belief in his particular circles. He’ll become a martyr. I wonder when Alex Jones will claim he was murdered with radioactive polonium or something.

  37. Porivil Sorrens says

It’s neat, but just for once I’d like these fucking ghouls to croak off before they get decades to do all their evil shit. Like, I will be popping a bottle when Kissinger bites the dust, but the fact that he’s going to live to be 120 while children are stillborn as a consequence of his policies is such bullshit.

  38. hifijohn . says

I dont blame Rush I blame society that worships him. In any decent moral country Rush would be relegated to some small southern station but the fact he achieved the level that he did says a lot about this country.Rush doesnt create the hatred he exploits it.As far as the cancer, I would be crying too hard.

  39. a_ray_in_dilbert_space says

Saganite, perhaps Limbaugh will become a martyr to dittoheads everywhere. I just hope that if they make a pilgrimage to his grave, they are overwhelmed with the stink of piss.
