Yes, PZ, I *do* feel better! Thanks! With Glen Campbell having passed today, I needed that. But to get back to things more atheistic, have you heard of/listened to an idiot named Neil Saavedra who has a show on AM wingnut radio called “The Jesus Christ Show”? It airs in Los Angeles on Sunday nights, and the dope actually calls himself “Jesus” (he used to go by “Your Heavenly Host”…geddit? Har har har…)? I actually enjoy falling asleep to it (being atheist myself) to hear the saps address him as “Jesus”. His webpage is http://www.thejesuschristshow.com/. Trust me; it’s a hoot. :)

Ha! I wish I’d known about this song back in the day. It would have been the perfect boombox soundtrack for our final hurrah.
My peer group in the mid-eighties had a plan: Should we get the warning that the missiles were coming over the pole everyone was to grab as much booze as they could carry and meet at the home that was closest to the harbour. The thinking was that since Vancouver was targeted because it was the nearest major seaport to the big naval base in Seattle we’d be more likely to be in the vaporisation zone the closer we were to the docks. Just to be sure we were going drink and dance on the roof until the light show took us out.
I don’t know how seriously the others took this plan, but for me it was a comfort. It meant that I didn’t have to think about how to survive something that I had neither the resources nor skills to realistically have a chance at. Never mind that there was no way anyone without a seaplane or helicopter was going to get out of central Vancouver in the 30 or less minutes you’d have.
I’ve unsuccessfully tried a couple of times to explain to young(er than me) folks what growing up under the cold war threat felt like. The nihilism I felt was so intrinsic to who I was that the fall of the Soviet Union really messed with my head.
I really hope that Trump’s sabre rattling doesn’t become a new cold war under which a whole new generation of fucked up kids grows up.

It gives me great comfort to know that when the bombs fall, our Fearless Leader will be safe and sound in a distant undisclosed location, leading the country’s few survivors to victory and glory.

@FossilFishy,
I grew up listening to them test the Air Raid sirens every Saturday at 1PM. Why I don’t know. We had a big AF base right next to town, a huge Hughes (now Raytheon) missile plant, and Titan missile silos all around us. We were going to catch a lot of megatons…

I struck me this morning that since we Leftists tend to be concentrated in the cities and the Rightists tend to be dispersed all over the flyover states, the population distribution after a limited nuclear war will be satisfying to the latter. The population distribution after a big nuclear war will be satisfying to the archaea.
