OMG! Stephen Colbert is such an SJW!

Look at this guy: tolerant, thoughtful, trying to see the other person’s side, and using buzzwords like “privilege”. Why, you almost expect him to hug a black man.

I wonder how all the people who thought his satirical schtick on the old Comedy Central Colbert show was genuine are coping now.

Devoting a whole recent episode of his show as a love-fest for the Pope shows Colbert might be an ally but isn’t one of us

As someone British living in Germany it took me a little while to get used to the idea of the police being routinely armed.

Here in Germany the police are trained to shoot to the legs, to immobilise someone rather than risk killing them by shooting to the body or head.

I wonder why American police are not given similar training?

Unfortunately, not entirely true. Whenever a shot is fired, there is always a clear risk of death. It just can’t be prevented. So when a German police officer shoots at someone there is not necessarily an expectation that the targeted person should always survive. Which is why the police do a reasonably good (but not always perfect) job of using their firearms only as a last resort, when there are no other options left. And in such cases, aiming at the legs would carry the risk of NOT hitting and thus stopping the target.

I found this through Google & Wikipedia:

    http://www.faz.net/aktuell/gesellschaft/kriminalitaet/polizei-erschoss-2014-sieben-menschen-in-deutschland-13707311.html

Short summary: in 2014 the German police killed 7 people and wounded 31 in a total of 46 incidents in which shots were fired at persons, 41 times in self defence (resulting in 6 of the 7 deaths). One person was killed while trying to escape the police. Without knowing the details of that case it does sound like perhaps that was an example of unnecessary use of lethal force. Like I said, the German police are not perfect, either. But it still seems fair to say that they compare favourably to their American counterparts.
