Now that Ray Comfort has a column on World Net Daily, he has decided to dedicate himself to taking down notorious atheists…and his first target is that giant of the atheist movement, Billy Joel.
Wait. Billy Joel? Is he even an atheist? Yes, I guess he is.
Maybe he’ll be willing to sing these new lyrics for an old song. If he’s not, maybe some reader with musical talent will do it instead. It could be a hit! You know, like the rewritten Candle in the Wind.

This right here may be the most brilliant thing Cuttlefish ever wrote.

I like how Ray Comfort lists a bunch of man-made things, that obviously had makers, but no natural things that obviously don’t have makers, and jumps right to Nature must have a maker. His brain obviously jumps around too ever make a coherent thought, let alone a song.
How could he go for Billy Joel first? Was he just warming up?
Caine, Fleur du mal says
This is Comfort we’re talking about. The man who thinks banananana*= evidence for goddidit.
*I subscribe to Gytha Ogg’s spelling of banananana – you know how to start it, but not how (or when) to end it. ;)
Janine: Hallucinating Liar says
Caine, that is low grade stupidity compared to the idea that if one accepts evolution, one has to accept the idea of males and females of a species evolving separately.
Shit. Let us just say that Ray Comfort is a dense nugget of stupid with a chewy nougat of stupid in the middle.

This has potential foot-blasting written alllll over it. All these wingnut readers every week having to cope with:
“What! Billy Joel is an atheist??? I love that guy.”
“Wha? Morgan Freeman is an atheist? He’s brilliant!”
“Bruce Lee was an atheist! Wherp? He kicked ass!”
“Jack Nicholson is an atheist?? But I’ve modeled my life on his! Maybe there’s something to this atheism… I’d better read a book…”
We may as well mail Ray a badge with ‘Recruitment Officer’ printed on it :)

Janine:
That is deep, deep stupidity. The banananana remains my fave, though, because it just reveals so much about ol’ Ray –

Charlie Foxtrot, there is a Celebrity Atheist site.
Charlie Foxtrot says
Hi Janine – yup, checked that link and that’s where I grabbed a few names from for above attempt at wit.
(Nice clip of a Morgan Freeman interview on his page there)
But my point, if indeed it could be called one, is that how many WingNutDaily readers would be aware of the reality based philosophies of said personages? Would it not lead to some minds asploding?
I’d like to think so.

If you don’t like evolution, so you’re trying to find any hole you can poke for “gotcha”s; and you don’t understand evolution, so you think a species transitions into another in one generation… it is basically the first “argument” that might come to your mind.
Ray Comfort is that guy who jumps into an ongoing discussion with the first idea that pops in his head, believing with his heart that his insight is novel and amazing.
Stacy says
He appears to be one of the stupider ones:
“These issues between men and women are not psychological. Look, remember what a gland is. Most of these are glandular issues. A gland is what allows that mother to lift that truck off a child. Whatever intelligent design is, it’s not going to leave the continuation of the human species up to fashion-crazy, flitting mentalities. It’s in those glands. The infatuation cycle of 18 months hasn’t changed a lot since the monkeys. Look at the numbers. Eighteen months is nine months doubled. A woman’s entire system is set so that when you’re having that procreative act with a woman, you’re dealing with a being whose actual cycle is nine months. It doesn’t have to do with her brain. It has to do with her entire bodily system, which is there to overcome the brain. We don’t legislate this stuff. We don’t out-think it. You cannot change these fundamental things that we are as human beings–but you can adjust to it.”

Rodney Nelson says
One thing that’s really annoying about Comfort is he makes his “sexes must evolve separately” claim, the evolution of sex is explained to him, he acknowledges the explanation, and then makes the claim again. He’s either a liar, an idiot or both. My money is on both.

This leaves me so torn. On the one hand, I harbor a desire to see what idiotic things Comfort has to say about famous atheists, especially if he actually gets around to the ones who actually make arguing against religion part of their identity, it should be very amusing. On the other hand, I don’t really want to expose myself to too many of Comfort’s repetitive, idiotic arguments. It would just piss me off. And I don’t want to give WingNut Daily the hit counts, which I suspect is the reason they’re doing this. I imagine they could get more hits from atheists reading for laughs and to do take downs than from their own followers.
gussnarp says
OK, I gave him one hit and looked at the original. He’s also claiming Mark Twain wasn’t an atheist and apparently is going to present some kind of piss poor argument for that later. Billy Joel is one thing, he’s alive to choose to ignore this or respond if he gave two shits, but to piss all over great, dead men and claim they believed or supported something they didn’t is as disgusting as a Mormon posthumous baptism. He’s already had a go at John Lennon in that shitty video he made about him. Ray, make your own arguments, don’t make arguments from dead authority who would punch you in the face for lying about them if they were still here (Twain, not Lennon, I like to think Lennon wouldn’t be the face punching sort).

Sheee-it,… no big secret that BJ has been an atheist for quite a while. Learned he associated himself with the ‘A’ word a number of years ago.

What sucks is that Billy Joel is an atheist while Mavis Staples is a Christian.
Any chance we could trade?
