I met John once at the AMNH some years ago. I don’t always agree with what he says but I like to hear (read) him say it.
Don’t antagonize him. We don’t want a philosophers’ strike on our hands.

It is true that John has no Horde; I suspect he may not want one. He does, however, have friends, associates, and readers. There isn’t a lot of “me, too” stuff going on at Evolving Thoughts and it is exceedingly rare for those of us who are atheists to announce that we want to destroy religion. Different culture. YMMV.

It’s always nice meet someone who not only understands the glimmer of an idea you are having but can show you a half-dozen well-thought-out variations on the theme. I agree don’t the state do anything in the US? Your country desperately needs a political left. preferably a hardcore socialist party.

Not to put a dampener on your academic condescension, but actually employment rates for philosophers (at least here in the UK) are only slightly below average. We philosophers are certainly much better off than computer scientists, engineers, and mass communications people. We’re even better off than physicists and mathematicians.
