Bumfight

Paying a pittance to old winos to get them to beat each other up for the camera is cheesy enough, but now they’ve sunk even lower: getting sanctimonious old Republican twits to throw punches at Democrats. Tacky, tacky.

Yes what is it with Republicans, they punch, they flail with the F word, and then they claim they are the party of family values. Oh maybe those ARE family values.

The puncher says the recipient called him, I gather, a son of a bitch. So I don’t think it is partisan political issue. The puncher, shamefully, just couldn’t control himself, his being right-wing probably doesn’t have anything to do with it.

Maybe he could be charged with assault. And the other guy, who was calling names, could be censured. To me, it’s not a “bid deal”.

The easiest, cleanest and least intrusive (in the sense that it does not detract from attention to concerns that are actually important) solution to this case of an unknown epithet and a poorly thrown punch is to let the two step outside and settle it privately.

While they are doing so the rest of the elected representatives of the public will can get about the business of spending our money.

That’s funny. I’ve taught my children that no matter what somebody calls them, it’s not right to retaliate by hitting that person. Guess someone’s mom didn’t raise him right.

We, as a Republic, have sunk to new lows. In the days of the founders, gentlemen met at dawn over pistols. I recall hearing that one fine southern Democrat (Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay?) took his cane to an upstart who questioned hs honor, on the very floor of the US Congress.

At least the Taiwanese haven’t forgotten how things are to be done:

His name was Charles Sumner, a great opponent of slavery. Two days after delivering an anti-slavery speech in which he personally named and called to task certain Senators (or insulted them, as some saw),
he was attacked by Preston Brooks, another Senator and the nephew of one of the Senators named in the speech. He beat Sumner over the head with a gutta percha cane… until it cane broke.

Sumner didn’t return to the Senate floor for three years, during which time the friends of Brooks (essentially the pro-slavery faction) accused him of exaggerating his injuries.

Brooks, on the other hand, resigned his seat… only to immediately be re-elected. He was sent, as gifts, many replacement canes, including at least one engraved “Hit him again.”

That’s the enlightened approach, trial by combat?

Here is another group lookin’ for a fight, the Church of England.

“The popular new PlayStation 3 game, “Resistance: Fall of Man,” shows a virtual shootout between rival gunmen with hundreds of people killed inside the cathedral. Church officials described Sony’s alleged use of the building as “sick” and sacrilegious.

A spokesman for the Church of England said a letter will be sent to Sony on Monday. If the church’s request for an apology and withdrawal of the game is not met, the church will consider legal action, the spokesman said.”

Oh My Zeus! “sacrilegious”! I am trembling in my boots.

And why legal action? Why don’t they just ask their god to smite the offenders? Can’t the Church take care of its own holy business?

I think the “calling someone an SOB is attacking his family” is a new right wing meme. I have recently spotted it in several diverse forums.

I don’t see what the big deal is. Asshole republican punches asshole democrat. Big whoop. Hopefully Bishop hurt his hand, and hopefully the guy he punched learned some manners. And yes, they’re both acting like ill-mannered children, but what do you expect from career politicians?

Ha! That’s nothing. Check out our deputy prime minister a few years ago (ex boxer in the merchant navy IIRC)

BTW, I first read the word Bumfight with a British understanding of the word bum. Now that’s something I’d pay good money to see.
