Sorry to hear that the PNW is having a heatwave. In MN we are having a respite from the baking temps and hot winds that cooked all my strawberry blooms.
Smoothies are great when it’s unbearably hot. Banana and peanut butter or Nutella is nutritious and delicious. I have also discovered the delight of iced coffee made with coffee ice cubes. A shot of chocolate syrup and dash of cream results in a beverage that tastes like a chocolate shake.
…no active large fires in Oregon. One “signficant” fire (not sure technically what the difference is between significant fires and large ones) in Central Oregon, but Central Oregon is always hot in the summer. 105 is not unusual for them at all, so I don’t know if the heatwave is affecting those fires or not.
Later in the summer the cumulative heat will really dry out the ground, and then a heat wave will matter quite a lot in CO, but my best guess is fire conditions are pretty normal there for this time of year. It takes a while for fire season to get going east of the mountains.
I guess I won’t complain about the mere 90F / 32C we’re getting here in the northeast!

I believe a large fire requires evacuations and a significant fire just has to be fought in some way (usually cut a line around it, in central Oregon). Small fires are left to burn themselves out. But it’s been a long time since I was USDA-FS and I wasn’t with the firefighting part of the agency.
