I’m finding myself more drawn to spoken word performances, and ran across this today. The cadence, the feelings, the brilliant Andrea Gibson on fears and anxiety.
Sweet and brave for being vulnerable and exploring the feelings of vulnerability that can overtake and overwhelm anyone. The fact is we are all going to die and that the universe doesn’t care. We are essentially powerless to save ourselves or anyone else. The only thing we have any power over is that we can care and let others know that they are not alone.
The words that pop to mind are: she is wrapped way too tight. She could use a few hours in a dark, warm, quiet place.
Reminds me of the guy at a party who, afraid he was going to get busted with crack/crank/cocain, ate a huge amount. Just short of convulsing he spent the rest of the night around back with his back against a concrete wall, wild-eyed, terrified, gibbering, and holding an old, blade style, can opener for protection. Nobody did anything because they felt he was just on the razor’s edge of collapse or violence.
I left. The party got really weird with lots of things going on. I never did find out what happened to him.
