I seem to have constructed a memory from whole cloth. The internet is not backing me up on this, so it has to have been my imagination. But it’s so specific. This isn’t something like KinderTrauma, where it’s an old TV show I dimly remember being exposed to at the age of five. This is something that should show up on atheist sites, and their opposition. Something in our domain.
I remembered creationists editing Archaeopteryx into an edition of the bible. Like there was a list of birds, there was one with an uncertain modern translation, and they just slipped it in there next to hoopoes and thrushes or something. I even remember having seen one of these bibles, dimly. But I can’t find jack shit about this on the internet.
Am I losing it? Discuss my inadequacies in the comments.

Hm, I cannot help you there, I’m afraid. I have never heard about this version of the bible. And I stopped caring about creationists and their inanities several years ago. However I would not be surprised if it did happen, believers generally have no qualms with lying for Jesus. They are almost as good at it as Russian diplomats.

Having memories which prove not to be true is not uncommon, most of the time we never find out that some memory is false, but occasionally we do and it can be very disconcerting. A friend of mine, Jill, thought that another friend of ours, Brian, who lived iin another city had a cane toad. She mentioned this more than once when the subject of cane toads came up. Then Brian visited and i asked him how his cane toad was, he had no idea what I was talking about, he’d never had a pet cane toad. This really shook Jill whose memory of the cane toad felt completely real, she wondered how much of what she thought she remembered was as you sy made u out of whole cloth.
So I’ve no idea if creationists put Archaeopteryx in the biblee, but if they didn’t it doesn’t mean your mind is going, it just means you actually identified a ‘real’* false memory. Which I think is pretty cool.
* As opposed to satanic panic or implanted false memories.

I feel like I remember something ridiculous about Archeopterix going on a decade or more back, when I was paying more attention to atheist stuff online.
Might be a completely different event, but I don’t think what I was thinking of had to do with an edited/”translated” version of the bible? I think the creationists were making some claim that Archeopterix was a bird, and not a dinosaur, and that there is no such thing as transitional fossils, because there is no transition, etc., etc.
But Charly pretty much sums up how I feel about it, I no longer care what the bible says, or what some ridiculous jackass claims the bible says, it’s all absurd and irrelevant, and I’m not going to waste my meager free time and energy arguing with someone who is dedicated to absurd and ridiculous beliefs.

Thanks for answers. I mostly want confirmation of this to reduce the upset Jazzlet mentioned. Not holding up much hope at this point. Maybe it was a dream I had, that was pretty much indistinguishable from IRL bullshit they do, and therefore got mixed with legit memories.

You could be linking two stories from around the same time period. That isn’t such a big oops, it seems to happen when there isn’t a big reason to pay close attention to something. And there aren’t too many reasons for atheists to take creationists seriously.
To attempt to prove this I’d probably start searching for when archaeopteryx came up in the news. Then search that year for new bible versions. If that proves unwieldy then maybe just look up what the Discovery Institute has been up to. This sounds like one of their ploys. Even if you don’t find anything by that point you’ll at least remember why you probably shouldn’t care. 🙂

Maybe some jackass did what you remember, and then took it down out of embarrassment, or their site went out of business; and no one bothered to archive it or try to keep it up or revive it. It kinda sounds like something the Conservative Bible Project might do…

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Another way I might go is looking up all of my internet comments for the last 22 years, I feel like this came out of a conversation I had way back… Not worth it. In good self-esteem, let me accept RB’s suggestion that conservatives are gaslighting me by not paying their hosting bills, heh.
