It’s been a while. (that has happened before. this is different.)
There are major real life things happening, and my energies are very much elsewhere. I have strongly considered (indeed, I told my two closest friends that I was going ahead with it) just shutting down the entire Cuttlefish enterprise. Erasing it from existence. Nuking it from orbit. Maybe giving people a week to copy anything they wanted to preserve, but other than that, just vanishing.
It seemed the cuttlefish thing to do.
I may still do it.
I made my peace with such an exit, then set it aside for a bit to stew. That bit is over now, and I am starting a new chapter…and I have not yet completely decided whether it is a continuation, or a new start. I may not know for a while.
In truth, I have just enough ego that I really wanted to make it to ten years, which would be this coming October. But also in truth, this post is going up a month after I was completely ok with spreading cuttlefish ashes into the ocean. And I am actually still pretty much ok with that.
At the moment, I am not promising anything. I’d like to think I would at least have one more goodbye post thanking everyone, and that would be the right thing to do, but I cannot guarantee I would do it. Or maybe I’ll just put up one more verse, and another, and another, and another, and never quite get around to a last one.
For those who have checked up on me (here and elsewhere)… I will be ok. I do thank you for your concern; it means a great great deal.
For now, I don’t know when I will write again. I’ll be a bit embarrassed if it turns out to be tomorrow, but I suppose I will at some point, either under this name or some other.
I will accept good-luck wishes, and (as always) recipes (especially old family secret recipes).

You must do whatever is right for you, whatever that is/may be. Those who really care will support you in that, no matter what.
You have provided much joy, laughter, wisdom, humor, and insight. I value that greatly, and would much appreciate it if it were still available. But, even there, you have to do what you believe is best for you.

I surely hope you won’t abandon this blog. I have gotten so much pleasure from your poetry; it is far and above most of the reiterative political essays and shallow social commentary on so much of the rest of the web. However, I do understand that sometimes it isn’t possible to keep on; writing gets to be a chore and then a duty and then a detested obligation.

It’s not particularly a secret, but our family recipe is the one my grandmother invented for lasagne. More specifically, for the cheese in lasagne:
Get a pack of Philadelphia Light and a roughly equal-sized pack of cottage cheese. And a few spring onions. Chop the spring onions finely and mix all of this together.
Layer this in an appropriate oven-safe pot with layers of mince and of lasagne pasta. (During my teenage vegetarian years, my mother invented a version that replaced mince with Mexican refried beans. This worked reasonably well and became a staple of my university years, but these days I’d just recommend Quorn mince if you want a vegetarian version.)
Top with sliced Cheddar. Or grated Cheddar, if you particularly prefer.
Cook. Damn, I can’t remember how long it was cooked for. Assume normal sort of lasagne cooking time and temperature. If you ever need more details, I can check with my mother.
