The response of The “Learning” Channel (yes it’s really called that – the channel that runs “19 Kids and Counting” along with other voyeuristic dreck uses the word “learning” in its title) to the allegations about First Patriarchal Son Josh Duggar was to run a marathon of the show yesterday. Very learning, much educational.
On Thursday, 19 Kids and Counting’s Josh Duggar responded to reports that he molested five underage girls when he was a teen.
“Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends,” Josh, now 27, wrote on the Duggars’ Facebook page. “I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.”
Did he understand that it was about the lives of the little girls he was molesting before it was about his?
TLC, which has aired 19 Kids and Counting since 2008, did not comment on the subject. But the network did run a marathon of the popular series on Thursday night, upsetting many Twitter users.
It’s almost as if that’s not a particularly responsible or thoughtful way to react to the discovery that they’ve been promoting a hothouse of Masculinist Values for seven years.
After news of Josh Duggar sexually abusing his sisters, @TLC airs a marathon of 19 Kids and Counting instead of cancelling it. Disgusting.
They were his sisters? I missed that part.
Gee, The “Learning” Channel, great job. Impressive.

What is it about big, Christian families? Are the eldest sons required to abuse the daughters, or something? It seems most of the ones I’m familiar with (including my own) have the same problem. Maybe it has to do with the misogynistic patriarchal nature of such families? Nah, it must just be hyper-reactive females overreacting to natural human activities (yes, I have heard that very response, though maybe not in quite those words).

At least some of them were his sisters. So we can be sure they were well-trained to stay silent and work on their modesty…

TLC is part of Discovery Communications, which gave us mermaids (Mermaids!) on another of their networks. Twice.

…except that no one actually got any counseling.

@ ^ Blanche Quizno : They didn’t? What’s your source for that please?

Response answering that. Thanks.

PS. Although I’m still not sure from that whether or not the victims of Josh Duggar’s molesting got any counselling from that as claimed – just that Josh Duggar didn’t get more than a talking to from an older pedophile. Minor point anyhow but just hope they aren’t lying about absolutely everything and the victims did get at least some sort of help. Sorry.

Ew.com? I wonder if Entertainment Weekly understood how prescient their website address was when they registered the domain?
