A female suicide bomber killed six people at a college campus in Nigeria’s Kano city on Wednesday, the fourth time Boko Haram Islamists were suspected of using a female attacker in as many days.

At about 2:30 pm (1330 GMT) on Wednesday, an assailant blew herself up at a noticeboard on the campus of the Kano Polytechnic College while students were crowded around it.
Witness Isyaku Adamu said the explosion came from within the crush of students and left blood splattered on the ground, as soldiers and police scrambled to secure the area.
Government spokesman Mike Omeri put the casualties at six dead and six wounded and confirmed that a female, whose age was not immediately known, was responsible for the bloodshed.
It was the fourth attack by a female bomber in Nigeria’s second city since the weekend.
Apparently the only thing that’s not haram is murder.
On Sunday, a young woman injured five police officers as she blew herself up at a another campus in the city.
The next day, two young women believed to be in their late teens or early 20s separately attacked a petrol station and a shopping centre, suicide blasts that killed at least three people and injured 13.
Omeri said security forces on Tuesday stopped a car in Kano’s neighbouring state of Katsina and arrested three suspected Boko Haram members.
The group included one male and two girls, aged 18 and 10.
The older two tried to flee, according to Omeri’s statement.
The “10-year-old … was discovered to have been strapped with an explosive belt,” he said.

It’s quite chilling to see what people are capable of.
It seems altogether too likely that the girls and women being used as suicide bombers are Boko Haram kidnapping victims rather than willing participants.
Little girls make very effective suicide bombers because people generally don’t consider them to “fit the profile” and let them in where others might get stopped. Of course now the schools will have to treat every little girl like a potential bomb.
Is there some way to interpret this as something other than proof that they hate their enemies more than they love their daughters?

It also would have been nice for you, Ophelia, to include a note about that in your original post. I understand that the text was quoted from news articles you didn’t write, but if the news articles reported that a 10 year old was guilty of conspiracy to rape for inviting a group of students to a house under false pretenses, where the students were later raped by a group of men who had set the 10 year old in motion you’d be having a fit about it. And rightly fucking so.
You think the 10 year olds went on the internet and investigated bomb making on their own? Went out scrounging up some salt peter or stealing handfuls of fertilizer and cans full of diesel? Mixed it up and threw in the nails. Studied a little basic wiring and rigged an active/passive trigger so even if she got shot the bomb would still go off? Maybe read a little Mohammed or Marx to get a good theological or political overview on appropriate targets before setting out on a course of murder?
A 10 year old suicide bomber of whatever gender? The very idea is sickening. Those news feeds should have their mouths scrubbed out with soap, and I’m surprised you didn’t volunteer to wield the brush.

Ophelia, your statements were minimal. I misread them as merely commenting on the horror of the explosions and murders, and not also commenting on the language of the media reports as well.
