In which protesters in Bangladesh torch at least four Buddhist temples and fifteen Buddhist dwellings, “after complaining that a Buddhist man had insulted Islam, police and residents said.”
What did he say? Islam wears army boots? Islam has bad breath? Islam repeated the second grade four times?
Muslims took to the streets in the area late on Saturday to protest against what they said was a photograph posted on Facebook that insulted Islam.
The protesters said the picture had been posted by a Buddhist and they marched to Buddhist villages and set fire to temples and houses.
Very sensible. One Buddhist allegedly did something (something trivial), and protesters set fire to temples and houses. Not the one Buddhist’s temples and houses, just…some temples and houses. Buddhist ones.
Sohel Sarwar Kajal, the Muslim head of the council in the area where the arson took place, said he was trying to restore communal peace.
“We are doing everything possible to quell tension and restore peace between the communities,” he told reporters.
Good luck. Seriously.

Does anyone ever ask protesters like these, “If one Muslim were to insult Buddhism, exactly how many mosques should be destroyed?”
No, wait, I know. No one without a death wish would ask such a question.

Maybe something like : “Islam is a violent religion followed by many idiots who over-react at the very slightest little silly thing?”
When Islam, of course, is famously a “religion of Peace” and most of its followers are gentle moderates – and to prove it anyone saying differently will be brutally murdered and anything remotely connected (or even totally unrelated and unconnected!) with them will be burnt down, threatened and otherwise attacked.
Yeah, that sure proves those nasty “Islamophobes” wrong! Oh wait..

I once had a Muslim student try to convert me. When I told her “sorry but I don’t believe that Mohammad was a prophet”, she told me that I insulted her faith. She demanded that I apologize. I laughed and said no. She requested a new teacher and claimed that I was insulting and hated Muslims. You can offend them simply by not believing or agreeing with them.
StevoR, Islam doesn’t actually mean peace, despite what many Muslims claim. It actually means submission. Read the quran and hadiths and you will see that it’s very violent.

Well, logically, if everyone submits you’ll have peace.
Ta-da!

Eldin, #3:
I once had a friend claim I “bashed” them because when they asked me what my religion was, I told them I was an atheist. This person was a very liberal Christian, who attended church only for weddings and funerals. So my simply not believing her religion was true was bashing her? And her believing in a sky fairy and telling me how sorry she was I had no joy in my life (I do; I just don’t have JC, but last I saw, joy is NOT spelled JC) – this isn’t bashing me? The first is not; I simply would never call it so, just because someone came to a different conclusion. However, the second statement might qualify. Except that her saying I had no joy in my life didn’t change my life in the least. All my joy, all my sorrow, all my pain, all my pleasure remained intact.
Why can’t people get the message? It’s not all about you. I didn’t come to my conclusions based on anything about you at all. My belief (or lack) is nothing to do with you. Try practicing a little of the humility you claim.
