I’m now on the Secular Student Alliance’s Board of Directors!

Squueeeee!

I’m super excited to be a new member of the Board of Directors of the Secular Student Alliance! The SSA is an absolutely fabulous organization that helps freethinking student groups across the world flourish. As a former club president, I know from experience how helpful they are. They brought many wonderful speakers to our campus, such as Hemant Mehta, PZ Myers, Greta Christina, and Eddie Tabash. Without their help, there’s no way our little club could have funded their visits.

On top of that, they’re always there when you need advice or event ideas. I can’t tell you how many time I dug through their Activity Packets or references their press release guide. And last year they organized a wonderfully informative and fun conference for secular students, which included the infamous trip to the Creation Museum! They have given me a reason to take a trip to Ohio this summer (I’m speaking too, woo!), and I think that’s quite an accomplishment…

I can’t wait to give back and help the SSA. Thanks so much to everyone who voted!

PS: If you want to help out the SSA, go give a donation here.

…Or maybe me founding a secular club on a conservative campus and making it popular while being President for three years. Or my blogging and other activism. Maybe, just maybe those things over a boob joke.

As a Michigander, this is the only legitimate reason I can find for ever going to Ohio… =pCongrats! I’m sure you’ll do many great things as a member, best of luck to you!

the Chair of the Secular Student Alliance Board of Directors Hemant Mehta is not promoting freethinking or freedom of speech but narrowminded and emblematically stigmatizing atheistic encroachment upon societal rights and religious communities. Read about him and find out just how backward ideas he’s spreading about religions. Seems like Mr Mehta has a vested interest in practically every quasi-scientific project he’s involved in. Or how else would you construe his perpetual attempts at (conferencial) brainwash. Your sect is under surveillance, Ucodex (abbr.)

For all I know, you may have some valid complaint, but half of that comment didn’t even parse. Care to try again? Possibly more words, and specifically more that aren’t so esoteric?

Dear Jen:I went to Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo, California in the late 1970s. It was one of the hot spots for the whole Reborn Christian movement. I felt like I was the only atheist on campus and maybe I was. I was a Journalism student and one year wrote an editorial advocating atheism. Not ONE person on the entire campus came out to support me. At least it was published, so that was something. I really wish there had been a Secular Student Alliance around back then.

For all I know you could be just trying to provoke me? Is that what you’re trying to do? POOR attemp? I’m sorry if you haven’t been provided with enough literal education to understand what you’re reading from a highly cultivated author such as myself, but I except just a little more respect from someone like you for a person of great prestige like me (meaning you shouldn’t boast about your ignorance and you need to show humbleness). In the social (Islamic) circles where I mainly practice my interlocution these wouldn’t be considered “esoteric”. Well, I guess it’s just another case of “us” versus “the western kindergarten”.

The difference between our “for all I know” statements was that I was presuming a positive; you presumed a negative.I wanted (past tense) to understand what you were trying to say; however, after that insulting and egotistical rant you responded with, I feel perfectly happy without.
