Apparently it’s not just Christians like Pat Robertson who like to blame gays for natural disasters. The Rabbinical Alliance of America issued the following statement about the profound effects of allowing homosexuals to serve openly in the military:
“When Americans are suffering economically and millions need jobs, it’s shocking that the Administration is focused on its ultra-liberal militantly homosexualist agenda forcing the highlighting of homosexuals and homosexuality on an unwilling military. This is the equivalent of the spiritual rape of our military to satisfy the most extreme and selfish cadre of President Obama’s kooky coalition.
We agree with Eileen Donnelly of the Center for Military Readiness that this will hurt the cohesiveness of the military, cause many to leave the army, and dramatically lower the number of recruits, perhaps leading to the reinstatement of a compulsory draft.
“Thirteen months before 9/11, on the day New York City passed homosexual domestic partnership regulations, I joined a group of Rabbis at a City Hall prayer service, pleading with G-d not to visit disaster on the city of N.Y. We have seen the underground earthquake, tsunami, Katrina, and now Haiti. All this is in sync with a two thousand year old teaching in the Talmud that the practice of homosexuality is a spiritual cause of earthquakes. Once a disaster is unleashed, innocents are also victims just like in Chernobyl.
“We plead with saner heads in Congress and the Pentagon to stop sodomization of our military and our society. Enough is enough.”
Little did the Rabbi mention, 9 months before 9/11 I bought an mp3 player. I think I have a new theory to propose – iPods are the cause of all of these disasters. It makes so much sense! Haven’t they been rising in popularity as all these natural disaster have been taking place? Good god, what’s going to happen when the iPad is officially released? It must be a sign of the apocalypse!
Wait, natural disasters have been occurring since the dawn of mankind? …Since before mankind was even around? …They don’t have a causal or correlational relationship to human behavior, least of all how people listen to music or where they stick their genitalia?
Oh yeah, that’s called reality. I forgot how the natural world functions for a moment, silly me.
Seriously though, people like this infuriate me. He says the mere existence of homosexuals rapes the spirit of the military. You know what? Why don’t we worry about all the women serving our country who are being raped and sexually assaulted by their fellow servicemen before we start worry about any spirit rapage. Since you know, women actually exist.

Joe: Jews look like clowns? Classy. The best way to fight homophobia is obviously racism.
I almost think anger is the wrong reaction. First of all, I'm pretty sure anyone with a brain can laugh this off. Gays in the military = draft? The gays caused 9/11? Really? Only people that are too far off the deep end to reason with anyway are going to believe that kind of crazy.
Second, this is pretty much a consolidated quote from the bible. If you're going to be infuriated, be infuriated at the religious system that indoctrinated him, and the scripture that he parrots as truth.
Moral: Ad hominem anger/attack = fail.

I can easily imagine someone after the Civil War saying that allowing blacks to serve in the military would "hurt the cohesiveness of the military, cause many to leave the army, and dramatically lower the number of recruits".
If I ran across that, I think my reaction would be "Wow. Were people really that racist back then?" I fail to see how this guy's statement is any different.

I keep hoping that if we have enough other easy targets to bash, the Christians won't be able to maintain their martyr complex… but of course that's a pipe dream.

It's amazing to me that people still blame all natural disasters on gays. If God wanted to punish gay people, why not do something bad to San Francisco? It's a gay mecca, it is on an ocean, AND it is on a fault line. Pretty obvious choice if you ask me.
Besides, if God will punish you for something someone else does even though you follow all his rules, is this really a God you want to follow?

I guess because you hear about moderate and atheist jews quite a lot Judaism always seemed the nicest and sanest Abrahamic faith to me, but recently the conservative jews have been getting more attention, like the ones in New York who paint over bike lanes because female cyclists dress immodestly, or the Hasidim in Israel beating women who wear pants and anyone who goes out on Saturday. Here in Australia, one theme in atheist comedian John Safran's latest tv show Race Relations was his jewish upbringing, with his mother saying "If you marry a non-Jew, you're worse than Hitler" and his friend saying he wouldn't attend an interfaith marriage.

Jews are not a race, they are a religion. Israel is a state, therefore Israelis are a race, this Rabbi is American. But this is a mere distraction from the issue at hand, that religious people seem to think they are exempt from decency, that they can, in the name of their religion, incite hatred without legal recourse.

Funny thing is that Hassidic Jews don't even serve in the military. That's right. They're exempt from conscription in Israel because it interferes with their time to study the Torah and Talmud, which is part of why many Israelis are not fans of their overbearing and self-serving ideology. So really, religious draft dodgers are now experts on military unit cohesion? Gimme a break…

@Pete Knight Fine, antisemitism if you want to argue semantics. I would argue that, though African Americans are Americans, we still refer to them as a different race. And since the Jews discourage intermarriage, this guy is probably pretty close to an Israeli. But, I agree, that's not the point.
I would agree that religious people arent exempt from decency. But neither are we, that was my point. While calling someone a clown probably isn't as bad as saying the gays are destroying the world, I don't think it would fall under the category of "decent". And it certainly wouldn't fall under the category of "good argument".
As for your "legal recourse" statement. I'm fairly certain (in fact, 100% certain) that this guy said nothing illegal. Just because someone says something you hate doesn't make it illegal. If this man had said "the gays are destroying the world, so I encourage you to go kill them" that would be illegal. As far as I can tell that's not what he was saying.

WOW.I noticed that so many of the comments here are hating on the Jews. Even the comments that “aren’t meant” to be racist are.The problem with those comments is that they’re coming from a place of hatred, and therefor wouldn’t be able to see the other side of things if it did naked jumping jacks in front the people who posted them.I am an Orthodox Jew.Do I hate gays? No. I actually have a gay uncle.Do I like gays? Not if they flaunt it.The religion I have been raised to learn and understand states that homosexuality (which, by the way, refers to men) is an abomination. Any act that causes a man to waste his seed, which could potentially be other humans is counted as killing those people. The problem is not with the man having those feelings, it’s of him actually acting upon them.So yes, where I come from, it is wrong. It’s a major sin.But any true Christian would feel the same way, as their bible is based off of mine. And Muslims? Same thing. It’s not only a Jewish problem. God placed us in the world with free will and choice. We were given intelligence to be able to use that free will and choice to our full advantage. If we woke up every morning to God saying, “hello, child, I love you,” there wouldn’t be much choice at all. It would be so blatantly obvious that there IS a God, that we wouldn’t be able to choose God for ourselves, and anyone who went against Him would be an obvious sinner. So, why doesn’t God just strike down San Francisco? Because that would be too obvious a move. If every gay person on earth suddenly dropped dead or was swallowed up by the earth, we wouldn’t be able to choose for ourselves whether or not homosexuality is right.I mean, we have people running around killing and stealing, right? You could ask the same questions about THEM.But the truth is, that God did give us enough information for us to make an educated decision that He does exist, and that his laws are the true way to live our lives. If we choose to blatantly disregard them, then we can suffer the consequences later. And if we choose to not care what anyone else does, no matter how wrong, we can all suffer those consequences now. Together. There are correlations between the treatment of Israel and the Jewish people to the natural disasters of the times. More “coincidences” than could statistically be possible. But if we choose to disregard these little “postcards” from God, then we suffer. It’s as simple as that. Now, to come out and say “9/11 is the fault of the gays” is an extremely bold, rash statement. And not one that really has anything to stand on.It’s the foundation information that makes a statement like that possible, and without knowing and understanding what went into actually making that statement, the response is just anger. And that anger is irrational if you understand where he’s coming from.Though, to be honest, some of the things he said at the beginning have been said before by non-religious and non-Jewish people. The reason the government uses “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is because many people feel extremely uncomfortable knowing that their fellow soldiers, that they live in extremely close quarters with, are gay. If they get rid of DADT, many people may leave the army, and chances are that the number of recruits will go down.In that instance, a draft would have to be initiated to sustain a large army. And nobody wants a draft. Also, in response to the last anonymous statement, “and since when is Haiti part of the USA? Or Indonesia/Thailand??”The natural disasters that occur don’t have to only be in the US.Every natural disaster that occurs, comes about for a specific reason, and those reasons tend to correlate with harsh treatment of Israel, as well as “abominable” acts.Case in point, not even two days after England signed a proclamation that pictures of the “holy land” may not contain images of the western wall, Iceland’s volcano erupted. Has anyone actually noticed what area of Europe have been affected?Flights have started up all over the place again. Except in England.
