Rejected blog topics

First, I want to thank everyone for all the questions and topics they’ve suggested for the blogathon. They’re all great – a lot are too good for me to answer in a half hour, so I may have to save them for later.

Though I did get one question a while back in response to my Evolution of Penises piece that was…well, didn’t quite make the cut:

“Anyway, I found the part about fake sperm of interest… I know it was conducted for the experiment, but I’m wondering what would be the medical ramifications if a woman placed the fake sperm in her vagina as a way to trick her mate into thinking that she had had sex with another man. I don’t know, perhaps she or her mate has a cuckold fantasy. I wonder if it would be safe provided the lady used a douche afterwards… your medical thoughts/opinions?”

First, … …….. ………………….. wtf?

Second, I’m not a doctor, not even a med student, so I’m not so sure I should be the one you’re going to for medical advice.

Third, that being said, I don’t think putting a flour concoction up your vagina is a great idea. Sounds like a yeast infection waiting to happen, or at the very least, a horrible mess.

Finally, douching is bad for you. I know that much. So I guess if you have a cuckolding-fake-sperm-fantasy, you may want to find another way to acting that one out.

I actually got that email right after “poop” had followed me on twitter. Just a day full of laughs!

    Well, that's…um.

That's something. That's sure something else. Thanks for sharing, Jen. I really appreciate it. And what's worse is my mind is already pondering ways to make that fantasy work….goddamnit.

That's not that weird. (What? Somebody had to say it.)

But yeah. When I first read 'fake semen', I had forgotten the article in question on my first skim, so the first thing that popped into my head was the stuff they made with stem cells.

Still, it is a bit 'what.'

People will ask other folks the strangest things if they get a chance. Especially if there's anonymity. Over on a gaming website I used to frequent, people asked all kinds of dumb/creepy/weird things on sites.

Now that I spend most of my time on IRC in RPG chats, the phenomenon is common in some of the bigger things there.

I mean, people got away with asking "How is babby formed?", you know?

Yeah, this is true. I guess there's a certain amount of social awkwardness that comes out in these particular communities. I saw it a lot when I was part of the D&D club at school. Just a lot of people who haven't quite learned to socialize. Or bathe, sometimes. Really, the bathing one is worse.

Also, I am gonna shameless plug here, since this idea came out of a previous one of Jen's blogathon posts:

Yeah. I wasn't standing for the not-bathing thing in my group. I never really subscribed to GSF1, so I was the jerk who would tell people to stop smelling like ass.

… Did you just write that? Great. Now I'm going to have to read it. I didn't expect this to lead to tab explosion!

Yeah, I've been writing it all morning. Hahaha.

And absolutely, that was my job too. "Craig. Mate. You need to use deodorant, buddy. It's just a must. You kinda smell. Here. I have one for you."

I actually always did have an extra stick, just in case. Kinda sad, but when you're a geek, you have to deal with it sometimes.

    That is awesome. So awesome.

I didn't keep an extra stick, but that probably would've been a good idea. I was the most broke out of the group (Some of them played 40k, others actually bought the sourcebooks, so I knew they had money.), so I made it known that they totally didn't have an excuse.

I'm glad to say that most didn't have to be told twice. Except for this one senior who left my second year in high school; he had the faint smell of pork products on him -all the time-. Ugh.

    Hahaha, thanks.

Disturbing, isn't it? Most just don't know. They don't think, it's not second nature to them. For me, even mornings I can't grab a shower, I go for the deodorant first thing, it's just what's gotta be. I think I am actually a little paranoid of smelling poorly, to be honest.

Oh god. 40k? Yeah, that's like putting up a "My parents are rich" flag. I got out of that sort of thing a long time ago, though I am getting back into MTG with this online program that is cheap-as-free. Aside from that, I don't do those sorts of things. Too much money.

Yes, it is. Pretty sad. I have the same issue with smelling bad. I think it's probably because, since I'm mostly blind and my hearing didn't exactly pick up, I've got a good sense of smell. I can't stand the smell of myself (but at least I'm not one of those poor jerks who smells like -onions- of all things. Ugh.), but I tend to be able to find out what I smell like well before anyone else.

I never got into 40k. I knew some guys who did M:tG on pro tournaments and the like, and they went to pre-release parties and all that. So around school, they'd sell a hundred crap cards for a buck or so, more often than not so they could go to draft parties and all that, later. So I would get those, and game with them. If I was lucky, I'd win.

Online? Really? Huh. While I can play D&D and similar things online, I can't really see playing Magic that well. But that's probably because I'm one of those people who likes playing cheap (in every sense of the word) blue decks. Being able to give people the "You're screwed!" smile is an integral part of the game.

Yeah, my buddy found an MTG database program that lets you build virtual decks, and runs an interface program. So instead of playing with real decks, they sit around with their lappys and play. It's pretty comic, imo.

And I have a lot of trouble playing D&D online. I am too used to getting up and moving around when I play or DM. I like to move and be vocal…it's harder online to give the same sense of urgency that a DM can give just by hunching forward.

Haha. Yeah, that doesn't surprise me, really. Seems pretty standard.

I still get up and move a lot while playing. DMing can be a different story, but it's much easier to run to the facilities without breaking the mood and pace of the game.

I generally like the feel of running places with varied NPCs all around, which I couldn't do while meatspace DMing.

It is harder to give the sense of urgency, but after six years of practice and experience, I've gotten to the point where, with my current group, I can tell when they're antsy or when they're going "meh."

Also, Out-of-character things tend to not disrupt the game so much.

Yeah, just came out last year. It's longer, and it has a story and a bunch of quotable new lines. Worth a look.

Someone (not me) may have posted the whole thing on the YouTubes.
