Last year my projector stopped working. That was unpleasant, but I can live without it, I haven’t really watched a movie for a while. Then the trouble with the processor. Yesterday my gaming headphones stopped working too, for reasons unknown – I haven’t been using them that much.
And to top it all off, I still cannot get the sound to work on my PC. First, the onboard sound card just refused to work and since that problem has been noted by multiple people on the Internet, I have decided to stop trying to solve it and buy a new sound card.
At first, the system did not recognize the new card at all. Then for reasons unknown to me, it recognized it and I could install it, but it does not work properly. I only have stereo sound. When I set 5.1 sound, only the front left and right speakers work, all the other ones remain silent. I am still reluctant to try a blank windows installation because I am not convinced it would help with this.
I am frustrated and tired and depressed.

Hooray! I have sound and full PC functionality. Finally.
As it turns out, I have been constantly making the same mistake of mixing up the holes for the front speakers and line-in. And unlike in all my previous PCs, when this one cable was put wrongly, none of the others worked either.
A stupid mistake that cost me a lot of time and nerves.

Yay!
Prepare for a third thing to break. As customary.

You are not cursed.
And stop calling me Shirley.
Charly says
@Giliell, I have three broken things -- the projector, the CPU, and the gaming headphones. All three are definitively out of commission. I hope that three is the final number, I am not in a mental state to endure more of this stress.

Hi, Charly!
Maybe it could be worse? About 8 months ago, my son and I moved into a rental as a temporary measure. One day we got to talking seriously about the house, and I was about to say something when my son beat me to it: “This house is cursed!”
There were all sorts of things wrong with it, big things, little things, and as soon as we got one thing sorted out, another popped up from a completely unexpected source. It was a big game of Whack-a-mole. And it was a losing game, too.
What it comes down to is that the landlords haven’t kept the house up, so that when we did try and get them to do some repairs, they might at best make a half-hearted attempt at it.
The obvious solution is just to get out, and that’s what we’re doing. We’re in the process of buying a house. The lawyers have put things in motion and we might be out in another month or so. We’re hoping we’re not buying another house that’s cursed.
(And yeah, please don’t call me Shirley, either. That was my mother’s name. Not that I didn’t like her. I just don’t want to be confused with her.)

You have been cursed for sure. It is a curse as old as time and is known to mankind as the 2083-curse*. It has been inflicted on my poor soul and it started when I tried to outfit my first Pentium Desktop with a sound-card, oh joy! Every now and then when I was clicking on a link in my browser the whole computer shut down. Not like software shutdown, but total loss of power, black screen and then after a few seconds it rebooted. It never stopped ever since. May the Lord have mercy on your soul.
Goto XKCD/2083 for an illustration for what is yet to come.

@Oggie, moonslicer, don’t take it personally. I am calling everybody Shirley here.
Oggie: Mathom says
Well, Charly, Shirly, Chirly, Sharly. . .
I can understand confusion (hell, I AM confusion (to myself, anyway (along with anyone with whom I am talking (not to mention any English teachers reading my writings and trying to parse the parentheticals)))). But doing it intentionally (I mean, on purpose? Really?)
