There’s some things I’ve been eyeballing for ages, but could never justify the expenses, and one of those things is a die cutting machine. Basically those things are two drums that are moved with a crank and the cutting happened via pressure. You can make very fiddly and intricate designs . Having paid off my teeth (and just before I got a new toothache and our washing machine broke), I decided to treat myself to a basic die cutting set and make some paper crafts.
These are beautiful. And a lot of work. They are about 10 cm in total and consist of three parts: the bottom and two side pieces. Not to mention the deer and squirrel, which are added separately.
Making the little boxes from colourful paper was a good time filler for the little one’s birthday. I guess I#ll be making my own christmas cards this year.

First cake and now beautiful art! Thank you :)
I have eyed a die cutter for years with all the model building stuff I do. Hmmm… maybe … .
Also I hope your teeth get better again, toothache is the worst :(

NICE!

What a fun new toy. I especially like the way the deers antlers appear to be carrying the light in the last photo.

The boxes/lanterns are lovely.
BTW, is the sound the machine makes something like “stantz”? What you do is “stanzen” in German, right?

Beautiful!

The verb is correct, but these aren’t traditional “Stanzen”, where the cutting would happen by pressing the “Stanze” into the paper, like puncher. Though I never considered that to be omnomatopoetic either.

In that case I’d probably save up some more and go for a digital plotter. Here you are very much limited by the dies you can buy. I got some for making a little village, so that’ll come over the next weeks as well.

Now I’m going to make you all very jealous …..
My mother visited a working farm, with some friends, at the end of Summer when people were allowed to go out again; she got talking about crafts to one of the ladies in the farm shop there, and ended up being given, free of charge, an almost-brand-new die cutting machine, with a whole stack of different dies. Not just any die-cutting machine, either; but an electrically-powered one with a 210mm. slot (i.e., wide enough to accept an A4 sheet portrait-fashion).

These are lovely. I did not know that die-cutting machines of this small scale actually exist.
Anne, Cranky Cat Lady says
Oooooh! I can’t wait to see what you create! I hope you feel better soon.

I’m mildly jealous. Mine is big enough to take A4 dies, but it’ll take some time to build up a stock of them.

I know this is a very late comment, but those boxes are absolutely delightful. I’ve thought about getting one of these machines for a while.
