We had quite the storm around here last night. First the temp dropped from +3 to -5º C and then, just as the light was fading from the sky, the wind started to howl. It was a pretty steady howl too at about 40km/hr with big gusts of up to 120km/hr. And then, Cue the Snow. You gotta have snow, you know. Thankfully not much with this storm, just short bursts of that small, light snow that gets caught up in the wind and won’t settle on the ground. I couldn’t see farther than 2 houses down my street and when the wind gusted it actually looked as it the snow was falling sideways.
The wind is still howling this morning, but the snow has stopped and we only got a total of about 5cm of the stuff. There’s a lot of drifting, though, so shoveling turned out to be more challenging than I thought. It doesn’t help that our only shovel is too big for the porch steps and too small for the driveway. I keep meaning to get proper shovels, but I never seem to remember when I’m out. (aargh!) Jack and I did get out, though. We braved the cold and the ice and the wind and daydreamed about warm, green grass and the sun on our bare shoulders.
I feel cold just reading about it.
We have spring weather a mont earlier than normal. Yesterday I have seen first starling. And the wine started to grow in the glass house. If late frost comes -- again -- the damage to my garden will be big -- again.
My solution to remembering things I need to buy is that I have a whiteboard which we both write things on (under the shop name for food) then I take a photo with my phone, so as long as I remember to do that before I go out I’ve got the list. There is enough space for things like dimensions of a window needing curtains or the size of tyre the wheelbarrow needed. This has saved me a lot of stress.
Beautiful photo. Aesthetically, the combination of wood and snow never disappoints. But I can imagine being tired of that weather, and especially of the lack of green. Although I bet Jack isn’t tired of it at all. :)
We have had similar winds all day, starting in the middle of the night and still going after today’s sunset. No significant snow, though, thank goodness. Tomorrow is supposed to be still windy but not as windy, but even colder.

Here, the snow has been melting. It’s been +5 °C to + 6 °C and high winds (10 -- 15 m/s, 19 m/s gusts) yesterday and Sunday, but now the wind is down and so are temperatures.

My whiteboard is large -- A1 -- and also gets used for what is in the freezer, what veg I have (boughten or ready to use in the garden -- the latter don’t get used if I don’t write them on), jobs I’d like Mr J to do, the cooking times and temperatures of regularly made things like pasta, pizza, fish etc, as well as the order and timings for recipes I am cooking, like stir-frying when you don’t have time to look at the book, and notes about jobs I’m part way through eg what time I put the yogurt to ferment. Honestly it’s one of the best things I have ever bought. I even go as far as to have different coloured pens for meat, fish, meals etc in the freezer, for each shop of boughten veg etc so I know what needs using up. I love that it helps me keep i control of things my fuzzy brain would fuck up left to itself. It even has a list of ‘easy meals’ so Mr J can suggest something to eat knowing we have the ingredients when I’m not feeling like food.
