Jack’s Walk

A welcome spot of colour, ©voyager, all rights reserved

It’s been raining since Saturday morning and all of Jack’s treasured snow is gone. In its place we have gloomy skies, stick-to-your-shoes mud and slippery decaying leaves. I did manage to find some colour in the neighbourhood, though. This is a burning bush from down the street and it just isn’t ready to drop its leaves yet. All the other burning bushes around it are bare, but this brave fellow wants to shine. It made me smile so I’m sharing.

So beautiful! The leaves and the berries look lovely together, looking vibrant even under gloomy skies. Glad you shared this because it made me smile too. :)

I know it as the spindle tree, because the wood is harder than other woods and thus appropriate for making (you guessed it!) spindles, which (apparently) otherwise could wear down easily from all the friction. But they’re super-bright when in season, and I love them!

I always think Autumn (Fall) and Spring are the best times of the year. The slow death, the fight to the last leaf in Autumn, and then the buds, shoots and blaze of colour of new life in Spring.

Amazing color! I have not seen one of these, I must learn more about them. Especially if you can make spindles from them. Really beautiful especially after all that snow.
