This came in from Avalus at the beginning of October,
And another dragonfly which I rescued from a bakery just on Monday. The staff was about to smash it but then let me have a try with a coffee-glass.
I can’t imagine smashing such a beautiful creature. Good work, Avalus and thanks for sharing.

Why on earth would anybody smash a dragonfly?
I can’t think of a reason either. My grandfather used to smash certain butterflies when he had the chance and justify it with “their caterpillars will eat my cabbages”, but dragonflies aren’t even pests. My understanding is that they eat pests.
Some people hit anything with wings, as I sadly found out from personal experience. They were to lazy to try to invest time to rescue and they lacked empathy for the little critters. And if they were successful, they complained about the stains … .
It’s beautiful! You can see some wing vibration, too. But the green-and-dark pattern is simply gorgeous, together with those big eyes.
And yes, dragonflies eat pests, they’re predators of the insect world, hence the giant eyes. I suppose some people are just terrified of little creatures that move, because I can’t understand smashing dragonflies, either. Me, I’d be picking it up with my bare hands.
