I am envyous that you caught the blue one with open wings!
I really need to dig through my photos of the past months to compete with you! ;)
(I am kidding! A competition would be silly. I just need to get my butt up.)

So beautiful. The first is like the arthropod answer to tigers, at least in markings…

Charly
I have never seen one of those live. What a sight.
I feel the same way about the American black swallowtail. What a sight that must be, I love dark-coloured butterflies. These ones are pretty impressive live.
*** avalus, thanks, I’d love to see your photos! :)
*** rq, here we call them zebra butterflies (“borboleta-zebra”). There are at least two species of swallowtails in North America that are called “tiger swallowtails” (Papilio glaucus and Papilio rutulus). They have black stripes too, but on yellow rather than on white, which I guess is why ones are tigers and the others are zebras. :)

I’ve never seen any type of swallowtail and that is a gorgeous shot. I have envy. :D
Ice Swimmersays
Gorgeous butterflies and flowers, again. The light is sweet. The first and the last have a fine feel of depth.
Ice Swimmersays
None of these butterflies is native here. The first is called in Finnish purjeperhonen (sail butterfly), the second is amiraali (admiral) and the third is ohdakeperhonen (thistle butterfly).
Nightjarsays
Thank you, Ice Swimmer. The last one seems to be strongly associated with thistles. Here it is called “vanessa-dos-cardos” which is basically its latin name Vanessa cardui, “cardos” and “cardui” meaning thistles.
