This is Smuggler’s Cove, one of our favourite beaches. It’s a bit out of the way and the road in isn’t well-marked, but that just means we usually have the place to ourselves. The cliffs here show off the mixed rock that is typical of this area and the colours change as the light moves across the sky. At low tide you can walk along the base of the cliffs and if you’re lucky you’ll find a fossil or an agate. I often also find sea urchins and sand dollars here. It’s one of my best places to beach-comb.
The cliffs on the other side are gorgeous. The formation in the middle is like flesh of an enormous fish.

Oh those rock formations have me staring and you had me at fossils and agates! There must be fascinating geological stories behind all of that, in fact I think I can see angular unconformities. Beaches with geological interest are the best beaches.
I just saw a face too, but that’s pareidolia not geology. Does anyone else see it, in the lighter rocks to the right?

That is beautiful. I saw that beach and all i could think of was that it must be a great place to find agates. Im a rockhound, so if you find some agates i would gladly polish them for you, that’s what i do.
Those rock cliffs are incredible. What a magical place!

I manage to find one or two agates every year, but I’m no expert and still have trouble identifying them. Mostly I find seaglass, which is always in good supply. The area is known for its agates, though, and I keep looking.

I forgot to say thanks for the gracious offer to polish. That’s something that I’m curious about.
No problem. Ive been rockhounding since January this year as a way to get my diabetes type2 under control. Agates are fairly easy to identify, any rock that is translucent to light can be considered an agate. The tumbling process takes about one month. My tumbler can hold about four pounds of rocks at a time. The offer is open at any time, a couple of rocks will fit right in. It would be my pleasure.
