The second has a very peaceful contemplative atmosphere, almost like a studio-posed bird (the uniform soft background). Morning light or evening light?
Evening light, and I do admit to a tiny bit of digital manipulation, so the sides are a bit darker than the centre.
I love how pointy their little faces are.

Pranksters. The magpies at our last house would sit on the fence posts and chatter at our dog until she lunged for them barking when they would fly off. Again and again and again. Drove her nuts and clearly amused them enormously.
