Beautiful image and I love the clouds, they are a nice addition to that scene. I would probably feel a little agoraphobic there though, I’m not used to that kind of topography!

According to the weather forecast I’m about to regret wishing for this extended spring to end and give way to summer. I just wanted a little summer heat, I did not want temperatures to go from 20s to 40s in just two days. I’m shocked and incredulous. WTF, weather. WTF. Right now it’s cold outside. I can’t believe we’re having 40ºC on Thursday. I didn’t even know such a thing was possible.

    A beautiful late summer picture.

Are there are both more hilly and flatter areas there in that part of Canada?

    YNightjar,
The weather is all screwed up. I don’t think it will ever be the normal, semi-predictable stuff we used to have. We had a big, quick swing from cool to hot here earlier in the summer and it was a misery. I hope it doesn’t get as bad as predicted for you.
    *******
    Ice Swimmer,
That picture is about as flat as it gets around here. Most of our landscape is filled with gently rolling hills that aren’t too big. The really flat part of Canada would be what we call the prairies and it’s farther west.

I would agree that this is the new norm, sadly -- right now, I’m fearing that next summer will be even hotter.

As for the photo, it is a 100% end-of-summer photo if I ever saw one. Do your local farmers ever work at night? Due to the heat here, many take the kombains out after dark, because it’s cooler -- and it’s quite interesting to see a christmas tree roaring across a field in nice straight lines.

Here we’re having a drought and of course the farmers are screaming for financial help, so they can keep producing meat at way too low prices, producing more methane etc. etc.
I have no idea how we’re supposed to have school come next week with predicted temperatures over 30.

  6. Nightjar says

Yes, the weather is all broken and it’s not getting better.

See, you can’t even predict that anymore. Last year with had a very hot summer preceded by a very dry winter and spring and followed by a dry and hot autumn, it was one of the worst droughts on record. I was afraid this year would be worse, so… we got an unusually rainy and cold spring that is supposed to end today. Vegetation has never been this green and tall at the beginning of August, not that I remember. I don’t know anything anymore, just that it’s broken.

  7. rq says

Yeah, we had the cold rainy summer last year.
A relief in heat is predicted for next week (temperatures down to mid-20s, after more than a month of high 20s and mid-30s), so perhaps some of this hot dryness is heading your way.
Drought conditions have been present since about mid-June, though the random thunderstorms the past couple of weeks have been a relief. I know a friend of ours is closing down his dairy farm because he won’t have enough hay to feed the cows for the winter after such a bad season -- because spring wasn’t nearly wet enough to let things grow, grass has been growing extremely poorly. It is the weirdest, and people still insist climate change isn’t real.

and people still insist climate change isn’t real.

Cue in our local right wing nutjobs who tweeted yesterday that “yeah, it’s hot, but don’t listen to the climatenazis”.
The irony of those fascists calling anybody nazis….

The irony of those fascists calling anybody nazis….

Well, the combined heat-and-humidity certainly are oppressive…

  10. Nightjar says

    rq,

so perhaps some of this hot dryness is heading your way.

I would say “finally!” if it stayed below the mid-30s. I don’t remember what the 40s feel like and I would rather not be reminded…
