Jack’s Walk

When I was nursing we used to have something called a triple H enema, which stood for High, Hot and a Hell of a lot. Today is a triple H kind of day…High (temp 31°) Hot (humidity 80%) and Hell (ish). It’s too hot for Jack to even go for a walk so instead I pre-cooled the car and took him to the lake for a swim. He happily paddled around for about 20 minutes while I lounged in the shade of a willow tree and then we hurried back home to the luxury of our air-conditioned house. We won’t be seen outside again until after dark.

    Awww! He looks happy!

When it got hot in the summers, my dogs would go down to the end of the yard and lounge in the pond. That was great, except for the masses of stinky slime that they’d accumulate; they were always puzzled when they’d come back up to the house and immediately get hosed off. Stupid human! We were just in the bath! Eventually the concluded it was just a dumb thing people did, but they didn’t mind it because it meant they got more cool water and a rub down with a towel. So good to be a dog!

31° C is definitely in the useless zone. Too hot for spending time or working, too tepid for sauna.

I can imagine Jack being happy to get into the water. The wet and shiny fur is indeed slightly otter-like.

We were about the same as you (other end of the province) and I was amazed to see some people taking their dogs to an arts & crafts festival. What were they thinking?

Looks like Jack was doing well. Nothing like a good swim for human or dog in these conditions. I have done it myself when the office AC could not keep up.

One of my vets told me years ago, that if the sidewalk is too hot for you to walk on in bare feet, it’s too hot for your dog to walk on.

@ ^ voyager : Yes, I’ve heard that too and it makes very good sense.

Okay, I gotta admit when I first saw the photo here I thought it was some kind of water bird there not a dog! Not till I read and looked closer did I realise … ;-)

Some dogs love water and some don’t. Its good Jack is a water dog. My kelpie is too -- can’t keep her out of the creeks when they are flowing and loves to swim.

Almost makes me want to get in with him, ‘cept it’s mid-teens and drizzly here. ;)
