Judging by the number of caterpillars hanging around the little red house I think the Bird family must be away on vacation. Maybe they’re staying down the road at the Welcome Inn.
They look like gypsy moth caterpillars. If so, yes, the hairs are irritants and the dinosaurs do not eat. (There’s a major infestation here at the moment. My porch steps, deck, and driveway are covered with their droppings, which sound like rain. The oak trees are nearly denuded for the second year in a row.)

The hairs might be irritant enough without being toxic. As a child I was warned against picking up hairy catapillers.
