Right. Stupid is choosing a very hard to find colour in pencils, and compounding that stupidity by choosing a pencil out of gift set, which means no identifiers on the pencil. No number, no colour name. Now, before I got absurdly attached to this colour, I could have engaged my brain for a moment, and focused on the fact that I have a very large piece to do, and only one pencil. This should have called for patience enough to see if I could at least find a colour match. Did I do this? Oh no. Just started drawing, and it wasn’t until my pencil was diminishing at a rapid rate that I realised I was in trouble. Then I started looking for a colour match. Couldn’t find one. The Prismacolour Pourpre Foncé was in the range of my original pick, so I went with it, and bought two pencils. I’ll probably buy another one next week, just in bloody case.

I tried to make it work on the piece, but it just didn’t come together, so I got to start all over again. If, like me, you tend to get abnormally attached to a certain colour, get as many as you can, it will save you much aggravation in the long run.

    Same goes for embroidery floss -- dye lots vary, and sometimes the dye itself changes drastically over the years. I’m looking at you, DMC.

    That’s a fascinating work, Caine. I can see the stems growing and moving.

    Oh hell yes, I’ve across the DMC problem, especially in vintage thread. They might still have the same numbers as the modern, but the colours don’t match!

    I hear the complaint. I’ve been donating yarn from the Redhead’s yarn stash at fabric craft group that meets at a nearby library that the Redhead attended, and I suspect some of the yarn I return with has problem of matching dye lots (from over 10 years ago), or simply being able to nearly match the color for a project.

    Sorry about your predicament, but wow do I see a lot of imagery in that blue line. My first thought was that it looked hot like a nerve network lit up by blue flame or a lightening bolt of sudden pain, but I also see a much cooler vascular system connecting body to pain. Or, I can also see it as a form of connective tissue where the body and pain/suffering have become one.

    It’s both those things. That vine feeds into the woman, who is pierced by the thorns. All the thorns on that particular vine will be dark red.

    Ah yes, a certain tone of acrylic clolour, that “perfect” shade of turquise. And then they did not make it anymore.

    The colours are so vibrant, the details so intricate. It looks good but in the same instant it looks deadly, harmful and venomous.

    Oh, I know that one! It’s amazing just how much you can grieve over such a loss.

    Saw this, too.
    Then looked a little more, saw a deep-cut river-valley with lots of branchings twining through a desert canyon.

    Something in the colours here. Almost alien.

    30% Cool Grey and Indigo, both Prismacolor. The indigo is nice, because you get very different colours depending on how you apply it. I picked up the indigo on impulse when I was trying to get a colour match, and I’m really glad I did.
