My book describes it as medium to tall, hairy, with toothed lanceolate short stalked leaves., flowers 15-20mm very fragrant. But in my experience you do have to take these things as a guideline, plants are so much more variable in their growth than birds or animals. At first glance I thought it might be Honesty, but I guess you’d know if you had that, the seed heads are so distinctive.
Huh, that’s a definite match, thank you! They are very invasive, and damn near impossible to get rid of -- it seems that a number of states have a legal status on them, defining them as a noxious weed.
That was a surprise, never saw them until I was going through the photos.

The genus name Hesperis is Greek for evening and the name was probably given because the scent of the flowers becomes more conspicuous towards evening.
