Off For The Day.

Yeah, it’s that time again. For once, we were scheduled for a decent time, and I took advantage to sleep in, heading out now. If all goes well, we’ll be back very late; if things don’t go well, I’m sure you’ll all hear about it. (I developed a…complication yesterday.)

Anyroad, I leave you all in the more than capable hands of Voyager & Charly. Have a good Monday, everyone.

    What Nerd said.

Geez, Caine, these “chronicles” posts of yours are hard on the fingernails. I guess I don’t do suspense well.

Sorry, sorry! I’m home now. I’ve spent the last 10 days vomiting, with severe diarrhea. On Thursday night, I went through 5 colostomy bags, and heavy leaking from the back end, too. The nausea got to be overwhelming (vomited in the car today, haven’t done that since I was sprog). There was a suspicion of pancreatic involvement. That was ruled out for now, but there will be more lab tests to make sure. Came home with a scrip for Zofran, which is helping already.

No chemo today, count is too low, and I was already feeling half past dead. I am once again severely dehydrated, so I got IV fluids today, then again on Wednesday, Friday, and the following Monday. The 6th cycle will be next Wednesday. Right now, very tired, so I’m off to collapse into bed. If I’m not around in the morning, hopefully I’ll still be sleeping, and not bent over a toilet bowl.

I have used disposable body-sized wipes only once, years ago, in a situation where the only water available was potable and restricted to human consumption.
If you wanted to feel less filthy, you used the wipes.
I just now gooogled “body wipes”…
    oh the humanity …
    doooood just take a shower

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear you were not well enough to have your 6th cycle this week! But it’s no wonder, given your description of the last ten days, that all sounds awful. I hope the Zofran works and your medical team can find and solve all the complications so you can complete this fucking treatment without any further delays. I also wish I could do more than hope…

  5. jazzlet says

Hope the Zofran works, there is nothing like diarrhoea and vomiting for making you feel sick, no wonder you’re dehydrated.

  6. Onamission5 says

Ugh, how miserable. Here’s hoping the Zofran stops all top end leakage and slows the other end to something resembling normal.

  7. says

So sorry for the long disappearance, I crashed hard on Monday, slept through most of Tuesday, into evening. Then it all started up again, in spite of the zofran. I have to be back into town this afternoon for more IV fluids, I’ll try my best to snap the fuck out of it and get back to work here.

I wish I could do more than hope, too. It seems I have a violent reaction to being poisoned. Thank you all, and deepest thanks to Charly & Voyager for keeping things going, there are a lot of great posts I need to catch up on.

    Nightjar put it best.

Caine, take care, I’m sorry you have to go to the hospital again. May the hydration succeed.

  9. says

Thank you all. Just home, and about to go crash. I will be back to posting tomorrow, but for now, sleep beckons. The hydration is helping. It had gotten so bad I stopped peeing in the morning upon awakening. I simply had no liquid to spare. Now peeing like crazy, which is much better.

  10. Nerd of Redhead, Dances OM Trolls says

I’ve had kidney problems in the past. Peeing every couple of hours is much better than just two or three times a day. I have water bottles all over the place, including my car.

  11. says

Nerd, yeah, I hear that! I have water bottles and various drinks all over the place too. I have been good about my fluid intake, but this latest bout of dehydration had more to do with the chemo, the diarrhea, and vomiting. I simply can’t replace all that fluid well enough by drinking.

I’m feeling almost human today, so I’m very grateful for the IV fluids, they are helping.

  12. jazzlet says

Glad the IV fluids are helping, but how frustrating to have to go into town to get them. Hope excretion of all sorts returns to normal, but being poisoned will fuck these things up, who’d have thought it?

  13. says

Yeah, no kidding. That’s what I said to my oncologist “well, we know I don’t react well to being poisoned”, which got a laugh. It seems my body is willing to do just about anything to expel the poison. It’s taken a bit of time to react to the IV fluids, and I’ll be getting more tomorrow. Hopefully, this will give me a good chance to hit human again before cycle 6, which is May 2nd. And to get my appetite back. The last 14 days saw me drop down to 92 lbs, and no one is happy about that, especially me.

Yesterday was absolutely mobbed in infusion; they had over 60 people in that day, I’m hoping tomorrow is quieter.
