Yachting.
This sailing boat was on the sea in May 2016. I took he photo on an evening sightseeing cruise to the Helsinki Archipelago.
The bonus picture is about the long off-season for yachting. These boats must have been sitting in the dry from late autumn. The sea ice could have broken them so they had to be lifted from the sea. The photo was taken in late March 2018.

Beautiful. I miss sailing.
These shots were among the easiest to take. The beauty was there, waiting for someone.
In the second picture, on the left, the tall concrete structure is Merenkävijöiden ja mereen menehtyneiden muistomerkki (the Memorial for Seafarers and Those Who Have Died at Sea). There is an eternal fire on top of it.

I’ve never sailed, but I have a friend who does and she loves it. I’m more the canoe on a quiet lake type. Mostly, I just like to be by the water.
We have a canoe! Been a long time since we’ve been out though.

These are beautiful. I miss the sea and I guess I kind of miss the horizon line. No, really, I do. I never see it these days, where I live there are hills all around.
Nightjar, along with the ocean, I miss that line too. It’s great to be able look out and lose yourself in that distance.
I like a few islands in the horizon. Sea itself is beautiful and I can enjoy the bare horizon line, but I’ve found that it’s disconcerting to walk or swim in the water towards the open if there’s nothing but the sea and the sky there.
Way back when we were camping in Kalajoki, at the sand dunes and beaches for the Midsummer, at the coast of the Bothnian Bay, I would walk backwards in the (shallow) sea to get deep enough to go snorkelling as there were no islands or opposite shore visible there.
That first picture really does take itself, doesn’t it. It looks like the boat is reaching for and capturing the light.
I love the ocean, too. Something about that vastness.
Ice Swimmer, that is interesting, I don’t mind swimming towards a bare horizon line at all, never had any problem doing so. Of all the places I’ve swam at only in Peniche are there islands in the horizon, and I never swim very far anyway because the sea there can be somewhat dangerous at times. And cold… but I suppose that is not a problem for you. :)

I’d probably have problems with cnidarians, waves and currents as I’m not used to them. And if the sea is less than 10 °C, I’ll be careful not to be too far from the shore. OTOH, I’m not one those people who think that water over 8 °C is spoiled and it’s pointless to swim in it.

Water very rarely drops below 15ºC here, I’m sure our definitions of “cold” are very different! Waves and currents are a problem in the west coast (Algarve is mostly safe) and I really don’t venture very far even in beaches I’m familiar with. I also make sure there is a lifeguard nearby (and preferably surfers in the sea as well) before even considering swimming at all in the west coast. All of this in summer of course, most of winter it is advisable to keep a safe distance from the water itself, you don’t need to be in the water for a wave to get you.
