A Perfect Circle – So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish. Lyrics below the fold.
“So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish”
Time is money and money is time
We wasted every second dime
On diets, lawyers, shrinks and apps
And flags, and plastic surgery
Now Willy Wonka, Major Tom
Ali and Leia have moved on
Signal the final curtain call
In all this atomic pageantry
Bravissimo, hip-hip hooray
For this fireworks display
Mind and body blown away
What a radiant crescendo
Ticker tape parade
Our hair and skin like
Like Marilyn Monroe
In an empty wind
Time is money and money is time
We wasted every second dime
On politicians, fancy water
And guns, and plastic surgery
Like old Prince and Brady’s mom
All the dolphins have moved on
Signaling the final curtain call
In all this atomic pageantry
Bravissimo, hip-hip hooray
What a glorious display
Melt our joyous hearts away
Under the mushroom cloud confetti
Hip-hip hooray
For this fireworks display
Mind and body blown away
What a radiant crescendo
Hip-hip hooray
Hip-hip hooray
Ticker tape parade
Our hair and skin like
Like Marilyn Monroe
In an empty wind
Time is money and money is time
We wasted every second dime
On diets, lawyers, shrinks and apps
And flags, and plastic surgery
Now Willy Wonka, Major Tom
Ali and Leia have moved on
Signal the final curtain call
In all this atomic pageantry

Oh, I’ve been meaning to give A Perfect Circle a proper listen for ages and never seemed to get around to actually doing it. Today I finally did thanks to your post, I saw it after lunch and since I had some computer work to do at the lab and needed something to block out the music from the radio (it gets on my nerves) it was a good opportunity.
The sentiment in these lyrics reminds me a bit of Tool’s Ænema, but with less anger… and less hope.
Caine says
Yeah, there’s still a bit of the Tool vibe from Maynard, but it is darker. The Doomed is one of my faves, as is TalkTalk, but part of that is my fascination with the Octoheart. I want that thing.
Nightjar says
Oh, yes, I saw the Octoheart and was momentarily mesmerized! Fascinating.
It is darker than Tool, yes. Much darker than Puscifer, which kind of grew on me recently. I like it.
Caine says
I have a lot of Puscifer on my play lists, I like most all of it.
