Fit For An Autopsy – Black Mammoth.
BLACK MAMMOTH:
Fools gold, siphoned and sold, merchants of death. Dead in spirit, now dead in flesh.
Born of violent flames, landscapes of ashes. The roots soak up the rain, burning in acid.
The wounds are cauterized, and left un-bandaged. Wilting beneath a sun, withered and damaged.
Tragedy reigns forever.
Rejoice in masses. The tribe collapses. The mother weeps in her dying breath.
Rise from the ashes, oh foul Black Mammoth. Dead in spirit, now dead in flesh.
Tread on sacred terrain, envenomed and ravaged. The peace upon the plains, seized by the savage.
Primitive practices, uproot and vanish. Modern barbarians, new rite of passage.
Rejoice in masses. The tribe collapses. The mother weeps in her dying breath.
Rise from the ashes, oh foul Black Mammoth. Dead in spirit, now dead in flesh.
Tragedy reigns forever.
Joseph Zowghi says
And the water in Flint is still toxic, and birds all over the country are dying from lead poisoning, and, and, and…
It shouldn’t be so hard to get people to care about these things.
Caine says
No, it shouldn’t, especially when they are going to be affected themselves at some point, but humans excel at the short term view, not the long one.
Nightjar says
I had seen this music video before, it’s very powerful. I find it increasingly difficult to have any kind of hope anymore, but I will keep fighting however I can nonetheless. We’ve been fighting over here too, locally. I don’t know what the fuck our politicians thought they were doing, signing the Paris Agreement with one hand and signing oil exploration contracts with the other. Hypocrites. Sometimes it seems humans are on a pointless suicide mission.

I’m reminded of a song too:
And then it came to pass
We cracked the hourglass
Left paradise behind
Out of sight out of mind
We never stood a chance
Against this sick romance
We have with our demise
We have with all of life
With mouths open wide
Our footprint steps inside
And when there’s nowhere to hide
Death comes with the tide
Ave Exitium -- Cattle Decapitation (I leave the link here but with a warning: the artwork is rather graphic and may be upsetting, it depicts human corpses).
Caine says
Oh, thank you, Nightjar, I hadn’t heard them before.
It’s greed. That’s what happened here, and it seems greed always wins, and the oil companies have a lot of money to line pockets.
Nightjar says
You are exactly right, Caine. Greed and short term view. That’s what’s destroying us.
Nightjar says
BTW and back to music, there is another album I often listen to when I’m in this mood, Gojira’s From Mars to Sirius, I don’t know if you’ve heard them.
Gojira -- Global Warming
They are a bit more hopeful and just generally less extreme than Cattle Decap. I usually go The Anthropocene Extinction -> From Mars to Sirius and that calms me down a bit.
Caine says
Yes, I know Gojira!
As you know, here in nDakota, we got a close up view of that greed, and it will be the undoing of this bloody state. There are more than enough farmers who have spoken out about the pipelines and fracking, but those in power do not care. They are having their pockets stuffed, and that’s enough for them. The amount of fracking going on here is destroying the ecosystem, and it’s taking good farmland with it. nDakota is 90% agricultural. When the oil asses have sucked everything dry, they’ll leave without a backwards glance, having removed a good portion of the state from agricultural use. What then? Eh, those in power, they can’t see anything but money.
