Ahhh, to start the day with a new tit.
They are among my favourites.
Actually, just now the whole troupe has been here, a habit they have partly abandoned the last days, with smaller groups or even individuals just showing up for a snack.
The tails are elegant.
The tails are elegant, are they not? Are they purely ornamental or do they have an purpose in flight?
Raucous Indignation
Not in flight, but in balancing (much like a cat’s). It allows them to climb onto the outer twigs and in the case of seed rings to balance on them with three or four at a time.
I love the way they flip their tails, I suspect there is some communication going on with them as some flips are so very expressive.
They remind me of Australia’s Willie Wagtail a very watchable little bird with a long and active tail.
