Not in flight, but in balancing (much like a cat’s). It allows them to climb onto the outer twigs and in the case of seed rings to balance on them with three or four at a time.

I love the way they flip their tails, I suspect there is some communication going on with them as some flips are so very expressive.

They remind me of Australia’s Willie Wagtail a very watchable little bird with a long and active tail.
