That would be logical. It could be done in other languages also. In Swedish, bullfinch is domherre (an alternate word for a canon), so the female should be abbedissa (an abbess) or nunna (a nun). AFAIK, Swedish bullfinches aren’t celibate, however…
The Finnish name of bullfinch (punatulkku) refers to the red colour of the male, so the brown female should be ruskeatulkku.
