    I love it! What a gorgeous piece of art. Good job Charly’s Talented Mom.

    ==============

    This is what pisses me off the most about the whole ‘War on Christmas’ bullshit. The idea that there is only one acceptable way to celebrate Christmas and it needs to be shoved down the throats of the populace has turned me, and my immediate family, completely off even celebrating, much less decorating for the season. I used to be an agnostic cultural Christian, then an atheist cultural Christian. Now, I do everything in my power to avoid any association with the damn holiday. Which means I will never again build a gingerbread house (mine were never that good).

    Ogvorbis like chigau said, you can build Solstice gingerbread house. I do that when I have the opportunity.
    I hate Christmass, but I love some of acompanied things so I celebrate Solstice instead, and I do it in a way I like -- and bugger anyone else. Here are some of my creations from the past:

    As Terry Pratchett noted (in The Light Fantastic I believe. It was certainly an early one), why is it always Gingerbread? Are there no health-conscious witches out there who live in Crispbread houses?

    We do celebrate solstice and family. I may do a gingerbread house in the future. Who knows.

    This will be a weird solstice for the family. Because of my injuries, and the time I keep having to take off for appointments (some are workers comp time, others aren’t — depends on recovery from treatment — no, I do not pretend to understand), I am not going to Florida with Wife, Boy and FDIL, and Girl and FSIL. I plan to eat seafood and drink beer and work (unless the GOP closes the government for a merry fucking Christmas to all!).

    Beautiful work Charly’s mum, and more beautiful work at the first link. the second link just comes up with an empty blog page for me. When do they get eaten? They do get eaten don’t they?

    Ogvorbis sorry you won’t be with your family, but they’ll be wonderful people around on the web like me (practising self worth) ;)

    Fond memories of constructing gingerbread houses (and eating them), none as flash as that though. They used to all fall down until a certain junior engineer built a balsa wood frame for the house that got reused every year thereafter.

    That is exquisite. The fish a nice touch.

    BTW, you forgot to drink one t from the end of the URL in the latter link to your blog. I drank one and saw the fine establishment.

    They get eaten, approximately after one year each year. When properly air tight packed though, they can last for longer and still be edible. I think I have eaten three years old ones with no ill effect. Apart from accutely heightened blood sugar that is.
    As for construction, we are refining our craft. Mom has invented a set of templates and each year one or the other has an idea for improvement. This year was my turn, I suggested to my Mom to insert one more septum in the middle of the house as a reinforcement for the roof. She said it helped a lot with keeping the contsturction stable before the sugar glue dries.
