The Shining? Worse. Carrie? Worse. The Stand? Worse.

Stephen King has come across a horror which outdoes every one of his works, and its name is Donald Trump.

“That this guy has his finger on the nuclear trigger is worse than any horror story I ever wrote.”

King, who wrote “Carrie” and “The Stand,” said the president’s first hundred days present a “clear portrait: he’s an almost textbook case of narcissistic personality disorder.”

It’s a pity this isn’t a King book, we could have all skipped to the end, slammed it shut, and tucked it away in a nice dark corner. Via Raw Story.

If it was a King book it would take way too many words to build up to a sort of climax, that would suddenly end with a macguffin because King got bored of writing it. Which is OK because we’d be bored of reading it before that point.

I have a rule about writers, I call it the “bestseller effect” -- if their first book (‘Salem’s Lot) is really good, and is typical book length, then I wait for their second book and if it’s 4/3 the size of the first, then I know we’ve got a writer whose first book was edited by a good editor who mined a good book out of a spotty lump of too much verbiage. You can tell you’ve got a writer who really has that problem when it’s something like Tom Clancy, Diana Gabaldon, Neal Stephenson, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King -- their books go: 250 pages, 400 pages, 900 pages, 1200 pages, 1200 pages, 1200 pages. And if you look at the 1200 page monsters, there’s an OK 250 page book in there, screaming to get out.

Yep, I know, but classic King is classic, and as this isn’t actually about his books, the man deserves credit for being right.

Many of us would enjoy feeling sorry for Melania after a nice Gerard’s Game situation.
