    This, to me, is an alien landscape. Oh my snow-accustomed northern eyes! It all looks so very dry.

    Thanks for posting these. It was a beautiful day for a hike (temps were in the low 70s F). It looks dry, but we’ve had a lot of rain this winter. The desert hordes water, the cactus hold the water inside like giant barrels, the grasses even store moisture in their roots. Come spring, the flowers should be fantastic this year. I wish I had a camera with a good lens so I could have gotten some bird pics to go with these.

    I’ll try to keep an eye on the flora, and take another hike around this loop in a few weeks when things start blooming so you can see the difference.

    StevoR, it is all native vegetation. I’m in Southern Arizona.

    Beautiful scenery. Though, I’d guess most of the vegetation would be thorny, so best enjoyed from a respectful distance. Saguaros are magnificient.
